Selectors' Call To Include Hardik, 4 Spinners Questioned Ahead Of T20 WC

There was a lot of speculation surrounding Hardik Pandya's selection for the T20 World Cup 2024 but the Indian cricket team selectors showed their trust in the all-rounder by naming him vice-captain. They also opted for four spin options - Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja - which resulted in the exclusion of Rinku Singh. In an interview with Times Of India, former India manager and Tamil Nadu left-arm spinner Sunil Subramanian said that he believes India could have picked one less spin-bowling all-rounder and played Rinku instead. He further said that playing fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed in place of Hardik Pandya would have provided more balance to the side in the World Cup.

“India may have picked one spin-bowling allrounder too many. Rinku Singh for Axar and Khaleel Ahmed for vice-captain Hardik would have balanced the side better. There is no way both wrist spinners will play, especially in Nassau County in New York. It is a mickey mouse ground with the straight boundary being 55 meters only. Also, it is a drop-in pitch. Against Pakistan, they may play with only one spinner and that could be Jadeja as they may want to pack the side with pacers who can execute yorkers,” he said.

There has been a lot of excitement surrounding Kuldeep and Chahal playing together but Subramanian believes that it is highly unlikely that they will be picked together in the side.

“Only if they are in a must-win situation. If Hardik is unable to bowl four overs and if one of the pacers gets hit, that may happen. But only in the West Indies leg of the tournament. The only other way to play both wrist spinners is by dropping Jaiswal and opening with Kohli and Rohit. They will not do that. They will err on the side of caution,” he further added.

Opinion: Rishi Sunak, UK's Accidental Prime Minister, Goes For Broke

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

Finally, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has decided to take a leap of faith as he last week called for an early general election. As heavy rain drenched Sunak and the new Labour anthem, Things Can Only Get Better, blared from a nearby loudspeaker, the Tory leader vowed to "fight for every vote". The announcement took many even in the Conservative Party rank and file by surprise. But things had only been going from bad to worse for the Tories, and thus, Sunak's move was seen as an attempt to salvage whatever he could of the Conservatives from the rubble around.

The Economy Pitch

For Sunak, the only hope lies in framing the electoral contest around the theme of economic recovery, given that inflation has fallen and the UK economy grew by 0.6% between January and March, the highest rate for two years. He has decided to bet on his ability to convince the British voters that he is the best-placed candidate to deliver an economic revival. The economy is thus set to become a key talking point in the upcoming general election campaign.

Whether this move helps or hurts Sunak remains to be seen as the Labour Party is likely to keep sharpening its focus on the rising cost of living. Labour leader Keir Starmer underlined that it was "time for change", blaming Tory "chaos" for damaging the economy and making a case that a vote for his party was a chance to bring political stability.

Read | Opinion: Rishi Sunak - Up The Creek Without A Paddle

Many among Sunak's closest advisors believed that while there certainly were green shoots of economic recovery, conditions might not improve significantly and that delaying the election could exacerbate a potential Conservative defeat, given the electorate's apparent desire for a timely say. Polls have consistently put Labour ahead, and this is a big moment for the opposition party, which has not won a UK general election since 2005. It looks like it is ready to assume governance as Starmer has been able to move Labour to the centre, a task no Labour leader was able to accomplish since the departure of Tony Blair in 2007.

Conservative Party's Internal Struggles

On the other hand, the Conservative Party has been at war with itself, a pale image of its past glory when it was deemed to be the natural party of governance. Despite Boris Johnson winning a massive victory in 2019 for the Tories, his scandal-ridden premiership collapsed in 2022, leading to frequent leadership changes. The Conservative Party continued to experience a noticeable decline over the last few years, marked by various challenges and shifts in the political landscape. It has faced internal divisions, particularly over Brexit, which have strained unity and led to significant leadership changes. Additionally, public dissatisfaction with handling issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic, economic policies and social inequality, has eroded voter support.

It has been an uphill road for Sunak, who tried his best to steady a wobbly Tory ship. But despite some of his noticeable achievements, he is not taken seriously as a leader. The Conservative rank and file don't see him as the person who can lead them to victory, and yet, they have been wary of replacing him for lack of options. For a party as ruthless as the Conservatives when it comes to changing its leadership for electoral success, this has been a difficult adjustment, and the strain is quite visible in its lack of self-confidence.

Little Changes For India

Despite the UK's preoccupation with managing the externalities generated by Brexit over the last few years, its relationship with India has continued to gain strength. The UK has increasingly recognised India as a pivotal player in the Indo-Pacific region. This is reflected in its "Indo-Pacific tilt" strategy, under which aims to deepen ties with India as part of a broader regional engagement. India and the UK have bolstered their defence relationship through joint military exercises, defence dialogues, and collaboration on security issues. Cooperation in cybersecurity has been a priority, with both countries committing to enhance their capabilities and share best practices to tackle cyber threats. Both nations have worked closely on counterterrorism efforts, sharing intelligence and collaborating to combat global terrorism. Bilateral trade has grown, with significant investments flowing in both directions. The UK has been one of the top investors in India, particularly in sectors such as services, technology, and infrastructure. Conversely, Indian companies have made substantial investments in the UK, particularly in the IT, pharmaceuticals, and automotive sectors. Efforts to negotiate a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement have been a focal point of economic engagement. Educational ties have been strengthened through partnerships between universities, student exchange programmes, and collaborative research projects.

There is a new ambition in India's engagement with the UK, and what is heartening is that while the Conservatives should get credit for getting their India policy right since the days of David Cameron, the Labour Party under Starmer has also recognised the need for a robust engagement with India. Irrespective of the choice British voters make, India-UK ties are likely to flourish.

"Emotionally Draining": Selena Gomez Unsure Of Going On Music Tour Again

American singer Selena Gomez has hinted that her music tour is not likely to happen in the near future. In an interview with Time Magazine, the Rare Beauty founder said the process is "emotionally draining" for her. "Nothing makes me happier than 90 minutes of being with my fans and just celebrating together," she said, about the prospect being "50-50".

The 31-year-old star continued, "It is very emotionally draining for me. And then you realize you're just surrounded by a bunch of people that you're paying." Notably, she last toured in 2016 for promotion of her album 'Revival', however, she withdrew due to lupus-related anxiety and depression.

The Emmy-nominated artist revealed in 2019 that she no longer used Instagram after taking multiple breaks from the platform over the years because comments on her photos had made her feel "depressed". Speaking about social media and its effect on mental health, she said, "It's a cliché, but girls are mean. It's a very weird competition, being in the cool girls area-and then I'm just kind of like, there. I don't know where I'm meant to belong. I love having levelheaded people around that couldn't give two fu*** about what I do."

Ms Gomez acknowledged that she experiences loneliness sometimes, but she strongly believes in expressing your emotions. "It's hard," she said. "You could be in a crowd of people and still feel alone. I still deal with that," she told Time Magazine.

In January, the singer hinted that she could retire from music and that her next album could be the last one. The 31-year-old stated that she wants to focus on her acting career instead, as per a report in the Independent. Before making her breakthrough as a pop singer and scoring several singles, such as "Hands to Myself," "Rare," and "Bad Liar," she first gained popularity as a Disney Channel star. In 2020, she debuted her culinary programme Selena + Chef. The following year, she garnered critical acclaim for her leading part in the comedy mystery Only Murders in the Building on Hulu, where she co-starred with Steve Martin and Martin Short.

The Rare Beauty founder revealed that she wishes to settle on a particular thing during an episode of the SmartLess podcast with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett. She said, "I started having a lot of fun with music and then touring was really fun. But I was doing my TV show (Wizards of Waverly Place) at the same time and I just found it really fun, so I just kept going."

Nevertheless, the singer said, as she grew older, she became more aware of her need to "find something to just settle on." "I do feel like I have one more album in me but I would probably choose acting," she said. As the podcast hosts lauded Ms Gomez's musical abilities and said she didn't have to pick, she answered, "You're right, but I'm going to want to chill because I'm tired."

Police In US Use Lost Earbud To Track Hit-And-Run Suspect: "It Worked"

An earbud of a teenager helped the police track down a hit-and-run suspect who had fled from the scene after the accident. According to New York Post, the 15-year-old boy was riding his bicycle in Jensen Beach in Martin County, Florida, when he was hit by a car driven by Peter Bradford Swing. The police said that the accident took place on Wednesday at 10.30pm. Mr Swing is accused of fleeing the scene after hitting the teen and leaving him injured on the side of the road.

"When we have something as horrific as a human being being hit, a 15-year-old boy, then the driver is just driving off, that's reprehensible," the Post quoted Sheriff William Snyder as saying.

The teen's mother told WKYT that her son suffered multiple broken bones and a head injury during the hit-and-run.

The boy was taken to a hospital, but released after brief medical assistance. The police said that he is expected to make full recovery.

Despite being injured, the teen helped the police in catching the suspect. He told the police that one of his earbuds flew out of his ear and landed under a floor mat inside Swing's SUV.

"It was that earbud that provided geo tracking right to the suspect's Jensen Beach home," the Martin County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post.

The police identified the vehicle - a Hyundai Santa Fe - and reached the house of Mr Swing, who had tried to conceal it.

"The passenger side of the vehicle had damage and a smashed out back window as deputies suspected it would," said the police.

The police found the earbud wedged under a floor mat of the vehicle. "It's an unusual way to locate a hit and run crash suspect, but it worked," the department further said in the post.

Titan Tragedy: Billionaire To Take Sub To Titanic Site To Prove Its Safety

Almost a year after the Titan sub implosion, an Ohio real estate investor intends to prove that the expedition can be completed safely by sending a two-person submersible down to Titanic-level depths. Billionaire Larry Connor said he and Triton Submarines co-founder Patrick Lahey will travel more than 12,400 feet to the Titanic shipwreck site in the submersible, as per a report in the New York Post.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, the investor Larry Connor said, "I want to show people worldwide that while the ocean is extremely powerful, it can be wonderful and enjoyable and really kind of life-changing if you go about it the right way."

Mr Connor has designed a Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer, a $20 million vessel, which will carry out the voyage. It has been named "4000" for the depth in meters it can reach. "Patrick has been thinking about and designing this for over a decade. But we didn't have the materials and technology. You couldn't have built this sub five years ago," he added.

Triton Submarines co-founder Patrick Lahey told WSJ that Mr Connor called him a few days after the Titan sub implosion and said that need to build a sub that could dive safely. "You know, what we need to do is build a sub that can dive to (Titanic-level depths) repeatedly and safely and demonstrate to the world that you guys can do that, and that Titan was a contraption," Mr Lahey told about the billionaire. However, the real estate investor has not mentioned any specific date or timeline.

Mr Lahey was among the numerous industry critics who attacked OceanGate before and following the catastrophe, accusing it of questionable safety standards. Following the implosion, he called OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush's strategy for getting people on board "quite predatory."

Notably, the passengers on Titan had to sign a waiver that classified the ship as "experimental" three times and listed numerous ways in which they could die, as per a report in Business Insider. Errors, unsuccessful travel, and a sense of insecurity were also mentioned by previous travellers.

British explorer Hamish Harding, French submarine expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, Pakistani-British tycoon Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman and Stockton Rush, died in the tragic accident. OceanGate has since then stopped these expeditions.

Experts recovered presumed human remains from what was left of the Titan sub after almost five days. Mangled debris recovered from the small submersible was offloaded in eastern Canada, which brought to an end a difficult search-and-recovery operation. A debris field was also found on the seafloor, 1,600 feet from the bow of the Titanic, which sits more than two miles below the ocean's surface and 400 miles off the coast of Newfoundland.

Anasuya Sengupta's Reaction After Winning Best Actress Award At Cannes

Anasuya Sengupta is on cloud nine, and she has every reason to be. The star has etched her name in history by becoming the first Indian actor to win the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival. Anasuya received the trophy in the Un Certain Regard segment for her portrayal of Renuka in the film The Shameless. The movie has been written and directed by Bulgarian filmmaker Constantin Bojanov. Talking about her winning moment, Anasuya told the Hindustan Times, “I couldn't believe it was happening! But as I shakily walked to the stage and stood with artists I have admired, my heroes, it felt oddly natural to be welcomed with so much authenticity and love by them. I am so grateful to the jury for seeing my hard work."

After her grand victory, Anasuya Sengupta received congratulatory messages from many industry colleagues, including Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, and Arjun Kapoor. Commenting on this, the actress added, "I am amazed at the love pouring in from so many back home, it makes me proud to make everyone proud. I am literally taxi-ing in the plane now on my way home to my family, I just can't wait to be with them.”

During the same discussion Anasuya Sengupta also spoke about the hard work she put in for The Shameless. She mentioned, "I auditioned for it, my director Constantin had reached out. It was a lead role…I have worked so hard for so long, and I'm here to keep doing it more and more. It all feels worth it when I look back, and all the pieces are wonderfully coming together for me finally."

Anasuya Sengupta dedicated her award to the queer community. In her winning speech, the star said, “I dedicate this and so much more to the queer community, other marginalised communities all over the world for so bravely fighting a fight that they really should not have to fight. You don't have to be queer to fight for equality, you don't have to be colonised to know that colonising is pathetic — we just need to be very, very decent human beings.”

Check out a video of her speech shared by a user on X [formerly Twitter]:

The Shameless was screened at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on May 17. The film revolves around Renuka (played by Anasuya Sengupta), who manages to escape from a Delhi brothel after killing a police officer. In addition to Anasuya, the movie features Omara, Auroshikha Dey, and Rohit Kokate in pivotal roles.

Training, Injuries - What Went Into The Making Of Janhvi's Mr & Mrs Mahi

Janhvi Kapoor is fully engrossed in the promotions of her upcoming film Mr & Mrs Mahi, travelling across the country. The actress has followed a rigorous training programme to play Mahima in the film, which also stars Rajkummar Rao. On Friday, Janhvi shared a sneak peek into her intense cricket training sessions for the role. The video features the text, “150+ days of training, 30+ days of shoot, 2 injuries, 1 film.” Throughout the clip, we see Janhvi dressed in cricket gear and practicing in the nets. From batting, running between the wickets and injuring her shoulder after being hit by a ball, the clip showcases Janhvi's hard work and dedication. In her caption, Janhvi Kapoor simply wrote, “#MrandMrsMahi in theatres 31st May.”

Reacting to the post, Janhvi Kapoor's rumoured boyfriend Shikhar Pahariya wrote, “The best of the best,” and dropped heart-eyes faces and red heart emojis. Janhvi's fitness coach Namrata Purohit said, “Cant wait to see this! I know how much you've put into this.”

Check out the video below:

A few days ago, the makers of Mr & Mrs Mahi shared a BTS video on YouTube. The clip featured director Sharan Sharma talking about the physical challenges Janhvi Kapoor faced during her training session. The filmmaker said, “So, we discovered she had something called MDI, which is multidirectional instability, which is something apparently very good for dancers, but not too good for cricketers. So now, in a span of two months, she has kind of torn up her ligaments in left and right shoulder. And now, we land up in a spot, we are like, ‘Okay, how do we make this film?' But I think we took a very wise call of doing all the correct rehab and giving her all the time needed to kind of recover from the injury.”

In the same video, Janhvi Kapoor's cricket coach, Abhishek Nayar also shared how the actress went through rigorous training for the film. He said, “We went to Baroda for a camp. For a 6-day camp, we were there, when Dinesh was also with us. So, we got a lot of experience working with some of these international cricketers, understanding body language, and how they move. From small things of how they walk, how they tap, how they tackle their guard. In terms of training, I think it was as rigorous as anyone would have, when they were preparing for an IPL, if not more.”

Mr & Mrs Mahi will be hitting the big screens on May 31. The movie has been jointly backed by Zee Studios and Dharma Productions.

AI-Led Tech Craze Leaves Mega Indian Software Stocks In The Dust

Shares of India's vaunted IT outsourcing firms are facing a reality check, as global investors' rush into the artificial intelligence theme starts to leave pricey old-economy tech stocks behind.

Unlike counterparts in the developed world and China, Indian software makers including leader Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. have yet to make significant advances in generative AI. That combined with a still cloudy outlook for client spending may soon leave them looking like the tech bets of yesterday.

"Traditional software companies' earnings and valuations are at risk because their business models are not evolving with the times," said Deven Choksey, managing director of DRChoksey FinServ Pvt.

A BSE Ltd. gauge of Indian software stocks has recently fallen through key support levels into a technical correction. Yet it's still trading well above its historical average earnings multiple after a yearslong rally in the nation's equity market.

India's IT firms enjoyed years of strong growth as the world's biggest corporations outsourced a vast amount of back-office work to save money, in a phenomenon known as getting "Bangalored". Those revenues have been slowing more recently as overseas customers cut spending to cope with challenging economies.

Meanwhile, software and internet majors such as Microsoft Corp. and Alphabet Inc. have been investing billions to develop their own cloud offerings and large language models.

"Coding is getting left behind by computing in the tech investing world," said Choksey. Indian firms need to reinvent their business models more quickly to embrace AI and deliver better software-as-a-service solutions and infrastructure like Amazon.com Inc.'s unit Amazon Web Services does, he added.

TCS last month reported its slowest annual sales growth in three years. Competitor Infosys Ltd. issued a tepid forecast for revenue growth of 1% to 3% in the year through March 2025 on a constant-currency basis, eliminating the impact of exchange-rate fluctuations.

While Indian companies and their peers around the world like Accenture Plc are making positive noises on AI, the sales contributions are still small. TCS said its AI pipeline doubled last quarter to $900 million - that compares with its total annual revenue of around $30 billion.

The volatile geopolitical environment and uncertain macro outlook continue to weigh on client spending priorities. The IT sector may see further downgrades after sales missed expectations last quarter, according to Jefferies Financial Group Inc.

"Results by IT firms disappointed on the top line, and management commentary points to a weaker-than-expected growth outlook," analysts Akshat Agarwal and Ankur Pant wrote in a note dated May 7. "Despite up to 7% cuts to consensus estimates last month, we see further risks to earnings, limiting upside" in share prices.

Lofty valuations also point to caution. The BSE tech gauge is trading at 25 times forward estimated earnings, compared with pre-pandemic levels of about 18 times. That comes as metrics of growth in sales and earnings have dropped below levels enjoyed by the sector in 2019.

India's software makers have been seen as laggards in artificial intelligence. In the absence of substantial advances in this area, they may lose investor interest as their business faces threats of cannibalization.

"The theme of corporations spending more on AI while cutting back on non-AI spending is global in nature," said Anurag Rana, an analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence. "We are seeing no signs of a rebound."

Watch: Dhoni Skips Handshakes With RCB Players, Kohli Then Does This

Was the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru MS Dhoni's last? The cricket fraternity is certainly hoping that isn't the case. The game was for Dhoni to finish, especially after he hit a six on the first ball of the final over of the match. But, RCB's Yash Dayal struck on the second delivery to get rid of the former CSK captain and pull the match in his team's favour. However, a demoralizing video has emerged on social media, showcasing post-match scenes where Dhoni skipped shaking hands with RCB players and returned to the dressing room.

Dhoni, who hasn't been fully fit the entire season, was in front of the queue of CSK players as they waited for RCB players to finish their celebration and shake hands with them. However, after waiting for a little while, Dhoni decided to return to the dressing room.

On his way back, the Thala did shake hands with the members of RCB's support staff and a few bench players. Here's the video:

It isn't yet known if a handshake between Dhoni and RCB's playing XI took place later, but in that moment, the veteran wicket-keeper batter preferred returning to the dressing room rather than waiting for the opponent team's players.

In another video, it can be seen that Virat Kohli went after Dhoni to the dressing room, probably to shake hands with him after missing out on the same during their time on the field.

The Qualifier 2 and the final of this year's IPL are scheduled to be held at Chepauk, CSK's home ground. Since this announcement was made, fans have been hoping to see Dhoni and his team lifting the trophy in front of their home fans on May 26. However, the topsy-turvy season saw the Chennai franchise fail to even make it to the playoffs.

Sophie Turner Says Life After Marriage With Joe Jonas Was "Isolating"

British actress Sophie Turner recently opened up about her split with American singer Joe Jonas. The couple made their home in Los Angeles, which initially presented the 'Game Of Thrones' star with several difficulties. She found it annoying that everything was so far away as it required her to travel for at least forty minutes in order to visit someone and referred to the way of living as "isolating". "You can't just bump into someone at a bar there, you have to drive 40 minutes with an intention of seeing someone," she said in an interview with Vogue.

Getting married to a Jonas brother meant joining a bigger family that included two sisters-in-law. However, the 29-year-old did not feel comfortable with the attention that followed. "There was a lot of attention on the three brothers and the wives. Well, we were always called the wives, and I hated that. It was kind of this plus-one feeling. And that's nothing to do with him - in no way did he make me feel that - it was just that the perception of us was as the groupies in the band," she added.

Meanwhile, their decision to relocate their small family to Miami in 2021 only heightened those sentiments of isolation. According to her, it was nothing less than cultural shock for the performer. "We were in this community full of 50-year-old men, so imagine trying to make friends on the dog walk. I just felt like a little bird trapped in a gilded cage. It was amazing, yes, but I didn't have any friends there," she added.

Further, Ms Turner was growing more uneasy about America's gun violence epidemic as a mother. She was devastated when she learned of the Uvalde killings in 2022. She told the outlet, "I couldn't fathom being a mother of one of those children knowing that this was something your country could fix, that they'd rather have rights to guns than give kids a right to life. Meanwhile, women in the US are being stripped of their rights, left, right and centre. It all contributed to this feeling of I have to get out, I have to get out."

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner announced their split in September 2023 after four years of marriage. They tied the knot in 2019 after nearly three years of dating. They issued a joint statement which read, "Statement from the two of us: "After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children."

However, comments emerged in the days that followed, calling her a "bad mum" since she was an extrovert as compared to her husband. Recalling the harrowing time, she said, "I mean, those were the worst few days of my life. I remember I was on set, I was contracted to be on set for another two weeks, so I couldn't leave. My kids were in the States and I couldn't get to them because I had to finish Joan. And all these articles started coming out. It hurt because I really do completely torture myself over every move I make as a mother - mum guilt is so real! I just kept having to say to myself, 'None of this is true. You are a good mum and you've never been a partier.'"

"Cost Us Whole Season": Hardik's Honest Admission As MI Get Wooden Spoon

After his side's disappointing 18-run loss against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Hardik Pandya said they did not play good quality cricket on Friday. Hardik scored 16 runs from 13 balls at a strike rate of 123.08 while chasing the 215-run target given by LSG. Speaking after the match, Pandya said his side failed to display a quality performance in the IPL 2024 and it cost them a season. He added it is too early to point out what went wrong for MI.

"Quite difficult. Did not play good quality cricket, eventually costed us the whole season. It's a professional world. Have to always come out and put our best foot forward. But yes, as a group we could not play quality cricket or smart cricket. Too early to point out what went wrong. The whole season kind of went wrong. We can pass this game as another one (that went wrong)," Pandya said.

Recapping the match, after winning the toss MI sent LSG to bat first but that did not go in their favour as KL Rahul (55 runs from 41 balls, 3 fours and 3 sixes) and Nicholas Pooran (75 runs from 29 balls, 5 fours and 8 sixes) played a fiery knock in the first inning. Marcus Stoinis (28 runs from 22 balls, 5 fours) and Ayush Badoni (22* runs from 10 balls, 1 four and 2 sixes) were the other standout batters for LSG as they propelled the visitors to 214/6.

Piyush Chawla led the MI bowling attack as he picked up three wickets in his four-over spell.

In the run chase, the hosts had a stupendous start while chasing a 215-run target but after the end of the fourth over, rain played a spoilsport for which the game was halted for a few minutes. However, that did not break the MI openers' momentum as Rohit Sharma (68 runs from 38 balls, 10 fours and 3 sixes) and Dewald Brevis (23 runs from 20 balls, 1 four and 2 sixes) played a partnership of 88 runs.

Naman Dhir's (62* runs from 28 balls, 4 fours and 5 sixes) stunning knock in the later half of the run chase shed a ray of hope on the MI dugout as they thought the hosts could win the match but he failed to clinch a win in the end and conceded a 18-run loss on Friday.

Naveen-ul-Haq and Ravi Bishnoi led the LSG bowling as both of them picked up two wickets in their respective overs.

After the win, LSG ended their IPL 2024 campaign in sixth place in the standings with 14 points. While MI had a season to forget as they finished at the bottom of the table with 8 points.

"Going To Be Dhoni Show": RCB Sent Blunt Warning Ahead Of Do-Or-Die Clash

The stage is set for the final before the final at the IPL 2024. When Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings will clash at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, India will be divided in two camps. The match will pit two great cricket stars Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni against one another, with their teams fighting out for the lone playoff spot. For MS Dhoni, this may very well be the last IPL match if his team loses.

However, all that is speculation. CSK currently is the front-runner to grab the fourth play-off spot.  A win against RCB on Saturday will see them through. If RR and SRH lose their last matches against KKR and Punjab Kings respectively, CSK can dream of a top-two finish too, provided they have better Net Run-rate. They can also advance even if they lose to RCB. For that, the side must ensure that the losing margin is not big. That will see their NRR remain better than RCB and hence finish above the rivals in the final points table.

On top of that Dhoni holds two important statistical highs vs RCB. Dhoni has 43 sixes vs RCB - most sixes against an opponent in the IPL. His highest IPL score if 84* also came against the team in 2019.

Former Indian cricket team pacer Varun Aaron  feels it will be a MS Dhoni show come Saturday.

"I have a feeling it's going to be the MS show this game, because it's all building up to this. I just feel it's going to be that way because he loves the Chinnaswamy Stadium. He's played some epic innings there. I remember him pull up some crazy even once they fell short by by one run that last over against Umesh Yadav, which is actually etched in my memory. I never forget that he scored 20-21 runs single-handedly of the last over, so MS Dhoni at Chinnaswamy stadium is really, really dangerous," Aaron said on Star Sports.

"Also. He's one of those guys who has a really high pain threshold and bites the bullet to make sure he forgets about his injury," he added.

"Will Be Gone...": Virat Kohli Spills Beans On Retirement Plans

India great and former RCB captain Virat Kohli has spilled beans on his post-retirement plans, saying that he would take a long break after he done playing cricket. Kohli, who made his India debut in 2008, is regarded by many as the greatest batter of his generation. Kohli, 35, continues to inspire budding cricketers with his tremendous fitness and consistency to score runs at the highest level. In a recent chat with his IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Kohli suggested that as a sportsperson he doesn't want to have any regrets once he done playing the game.

"I think as a sportsman, we do have an end-date to our careers. So I am just working backwards. I don't want to finish my career thinking 'oh, what if I have done this on that particular day' because I can't keep going on and on forever. So it's just about not leaving any undone business behind and not have any regrets later, which I am sure I won't," said Kohli at RCB's Royal Gala Dinner.

Kohli suggested that once he retires from cricket, he would take a long break before deciding his next chapter.

"Once I am done, I will be gone, you won't see me for a while (smiles). So I want to give it everything I have till the time I play, and that's the only thing that keeps me going," he added.

Kohli is currently playing for RCB in IPL 2024. He is currently the leading run-getter in the tournament with 661 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 155.16 and an impressive average of 66.10.

Placed fifth in table with 12 points, RCB are still alive in the play-off race. They take on CSK in a virtual knockout clash on Saturday.

However, the match is in danger of being washed out with the weather forecast predicting rain for the next five days in Bengaluru.

In case of a washout, both teams will be awarded a point each. However, RCB will crash out of the tournament while CSK will qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs.

Hilarious Results As Fans Apply For Team India Head Coach's Job

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has begin its hunt for the next coach of senior men's cricket team. Current India head coach Rahul Dravid put pen to paper on an extension, along with his support staff, in November 2023 after the conclusion of the ODI World Cup. However, his current contract is only valid till the end of June 2024. While BCCI secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that Dravid can re-apply for the job, it has been reported that the former India captain isn't keen on continuing as India's head coach, and hence, is unlikely to join the head coach race again.

"The BCCI on Monday invited applications for the position of Head Coach of the Senior Men's Team. Applications for the position should be submitted by 6PM IST on May 27, 2024 in the link here. The selection process will include a thorough review of applications, followed by personal interviews and assessments of shortlisted candidates. Job Description for the said position is provided here," the BCCI said in a statement on Monday.

After BCCI's announcement, fans took to social media platform X to submit their applications.

Here's how Internet reacted:

Jay Shah had also revealed that the BCCI is also looking at overseas candidates to replace Dravid, but it will only be considered depending on the CAC's recommendations.

"If the CAC selects a foreign coach, I can't interfere. A few interviews for the selector's post have already happened. We will announce it soon," Shah had said during a media interaction last week.

According to a report in the Indian Express, the BCCI top brass has already informally held discussion with Stephen Fleming, The New Zealander has been the coach of Chennai Super Kings for a long time and understands the Indian players and conditions well.

However, the report also suggested that it is not clear if Fleming will apply for the job. The deadline for applying for the post is May 27.

Dravid Was Asked To Stay As India's Test Coach. Here's Why He Refused

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has begun its hunt for a new head coach for the Indian men's cricket team. With Rahul Dravid's contract set to expire after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2024, the board has sent out advertisements for new applications, though Dravid also remains eligible to apply. However, it has been reported that the former India batter isn't keen to continue the role beyond the upcoming T20 World Cup, having already made up his mind.

As per a report in Sportstar, Dravid is not going to reapply for the role, having decided long ago that he doesn't want to extend his stay as the team's head coach beyond the current stint. In fact, the report claims that some seniors in the team requested Dravid to continue as the coach of India's Test team for another year, but he turned down the offer, having already made up his mind that the extension he signed after the ODI World Cup 2023, will be his last.

Had Dravid agreed to stay as India's Test coach, the BCCI might have decided to hire format-specailist coaches. But, that is no longer the case.

Though the hunt for the new coach has just begun, VVS Laxman's name has been speculated a lot. The former India batter has led the team as head coach in Dravid's absence on a handful of occasions before. But, it has also been reported that he isn't among the top candidates for the permanent head coach's job.

Some overseas names are being mulled upon by the BCCI, as per reports. Earlier, the board's secretary Jay Shah had confirmed that overseas options will also be considered for the head coach's role.

"We cannot determine whether the new coach will be Indian or foreign. It will be up to the CAC, and we are a global body," Jay Shah had said.

Early indications suggest that the likes of Stephen Fleming and Ricky Ponting, currently coaching Indian Premier League franchises Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals respectively, are top on the wishlist. Justin Langer, the coach of Lucknow Super Giants, is another overseas coach who himself flirted with the idea of coaching the Indian team.
