Probe Agency Raids AAP Punjab MLA In Drugs-Linked Money Laundering Case

The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday conducted searches at multiple locations in Punjab, including at the premises of AAP MLA Kulwant Singh, as part of a drugs-linked money laundering investigation, official sources said.

Locations in Mohali, Amritsar and Ludhiana are being covered by the federal probe agency along with an escort of central paramilitary forces personnel.

The premises linked to SAS Nagar Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Kulwant Singh, 61, in Mohali are also being covered, they said.

The ED action is being undertaken under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and is understood to be based on an FIR of the Punjab Police related to a narcotics and drugs trafficking case.

The MLA recently was in news after Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit asked Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to take "strict action" against the legislator's real estate company whose two projects allegedly violated environmental norms.

The two projects in Mohali are being developed by Janta Land Promoters Limited (JLPL), which is owned by Singh.

Ashok Gehlot's Son Appears Before Probe Agency In Delhi

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's son Vaibhav appeared before the Enforcement Directorate today in connection with alleged violations of foreign exchange rules.

Vaibhav Gehlot arrived at the probe agency's headquarters in Delhi at around 11.30 am.

He was asked by the ED to depose before the probe agency's office either in Jaipur or in the national capital.

The summons are linked to the recent ED raids against Rajasthan-based hospitality group Triton Hotels & Resorts Pvt. Ltd., Vardha Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. and its directors and promoters Shiv Shankar Sharma, Rattan Kant Sharma and others.

The ED had seized Rs 1.2 crore in cash during the searches last month. The Triton group, it is alleged, received investment from a Mauritius entity back in 2007-2008.

The ED is likely to question Vaibhav Gehlot on his alleged links with Rattan Kant Sharma.

Brushing off the allegations against his son, Ashok Gehlot said that Vaibhav has no foreign exchange dealings. "Vaibhav Gehlot only has a taxi company. Rattan (Kant Sharma) was a partner, but they work separately now," he said.

The Rajasthan Chief Minister said central agencies have lost their credibility due to the alleged misuse by BJP-led central government.

"Central agencies have no credibility now. It is a worrying situation. This is not about my son or the state Congress president. Aatank macha rakha hai desh mein (they have spread terror in the country)," he said.

Mr Gehlot also hit out at the central agence for issuing a short notice summons. "Is this a joke?" he said.

Lucknow's Outfield Faces Criticism After England Star's Fielding Injury

The outfield at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow faced a lot of criticism after England cricketer Liam Livingstone injured himself while taking a catch against India during the Cricket World Cup 2023 on Sunday. Livingstone covered a lot of ground after a miscue from Rohit Sharma but when he tried to dive forward to complete the catch, the outfield was disturbed by the pressure and Livingstone ended up getting injured. The outfield in Dharamsala has already come under the scanner after several complaints and the incident in Lucknow left the fans concerned. The outfield in Lucknow was re-laid after complaints during the Indian Premier League (IPL) but the problems seem to be persist for now.

Mohammed Shami led an inspired bowling display as India hammered England by 100 runs on Sunday to stay unbeaten in the World Cup and all but push the defending champions out of the semi-final race.

Chasing a tricky 230 for victory in Lucknow, England collapsed to 129 all out in 34.5 overs to suffer their fifth defeat in six matches and leave their title defence at the mercy of a mathematical miracle.

The hosts have six wins in as many games and are virtually assured of a semi-final place.

Skipper Rohit Sharma led the charge with 87 as India posted 229-9, a total that looked below par but proved enough for a struggling England side on a sluggish pitch.

"It was a great performance and we would take that win any day," said man-of-the-match Rohit.

Shami returned figures of 4-22 while fellow quick Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets to wrap up the match as fireworks lit up the sky.

Review: Paradise - Beautifully Realised Drama Is Beyond Masterful

Unswerving in its grasp of both philosophy and psychology, Prasanna Vithanage's Paradise is a masterly evocation of the frailty of 'man' when faced with a crisis. A nation totters on the brink of economic ruination, a relationship drifts into a grey zone and both morality and humanity are put to the test in rapidly worsening circumstances.

Paradise, written by the veteran Sri Lankan director in collaboration with Anushka Senanayake, is an astute, incisive drama that centres on a marriage buffeted by events unfolding in the world outside. But it isn't just another ordinary tale of marital discord set in a "paradise" lost. Paradise is an unblemished amalgam of multiple layers of consciousness, ranging from the timeless to the instantly tangible, from the hoary to the contemporaneous.

Winner of the Kim Jiseok Award at the Busan International Film Festival, Paradise had its South Asia premiere at the Mumbai Film Festival on Sunday.

Produced by Anto Chittilappilly's Newton Cinema, presented by Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies, shot by Rajeev Ravi, edited by A. Sreekar Prasad and scored by composer K (K Krishna Kumar), the Roshan Mathew-Dhanya Rajendra starrer makes liberal use of Sinhala, Malayalam, Hindi and English as languages intermingle in a beautifully orchestrated interplay of cultures, interpretations of mythology and intonations.

Vithanage's exquisite film it is an all-out exploration of turmoil within and turmoil without in a nation sitting on a powder keg. Public anger is at its peak and, as events take a disconcerting turn, a young Malayali couple on a Ramayana tour of Sri Lanka to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary, accidentally run into the eye of the storm.

Amritha (Darshana Rajendran), a blogger, and Kesav (Roshan Mathew), a filmmaker, are in the island nation two months after an economic downturn has triggered despair and disquiet all around amid shortages of essential commodities, fuel and electricity. What the couple encounters spans from the personal to the political, and from the intimate to the existential.

Kesav, based in India's financial capital and awaiting a decision from a streaming platform on a project that he has pitched, is on tenterhooks. The couple's trip to Sri Lanka, now cheaper to visit than at any other time, is to help the man take his mind off the professional imponderables he is exercised over.

It all seems to be smooth sailing as their driver and tour guide Andrew (Shyam Fernando) takes them to spots where crucial events of the Ramayana are said to have occurred and fills them in with a wealth of mythic stories. They are then driven to a bungalow perched on a hill in the middle of a lush forest.

Trouble erupts in this idyll and sets off a discomfiting chain of events that sends the couple, like the nation they are touring, into a tailspin. Amritha and Kesav react differently as matters escalate quickly. The choices they make lay bare the workings of their minds.

The screenplay relies far less on words than on gestures and meaningful silences and expressions - the two lead actors are brilliantly understated. Much is left unsaid, a lot is articulated between the lines, and the underlying meanings of actions and reactions reveal themselves in all the opacity that humans are capable of when they are intent on self-preservation.

Vithanage's layered examination of human behaviour is especially striking because he deals here with individuals who have no control over what is happening to them and around them. But Kesav thinks that his life, career and marriage are all poised for a turnround. The world, he seems to feel, revolves around him and that he has everything in control.

Amritha, sensitive and attuned to the beauty that she is surrounded by despite the upheavals that threaten the tranquility of the location, is acutely aware of the line that separates what is right from what is merely expedient. Within the marriage, the clear clash of ideals leads to a silent battle that ends explosively, and literally at that.

Besides Andrew, who sleeps in the driver's quarters, the tourist bungalow has two other occupants - the caretaker Shree (Sumith Ilango), who has a hunting gun although he himself isn't a meat eater, and the cook Iqbal (Isham Samzudeen), who revels in humming Hindi film songs as the night wears on in the woods.

Paradise is a beautifully realized drama about a nation, an economy and a people pushed into an abyss by the misgovernance of a political clan. Its repeated references to the Ramayana - Sri Lanka has over 50 sites that are associated with the Hindu epic - and the mass unrest in the nation serve as a backdrop for a story of two tourists.

Central to the film are a midnight robbery, a theft of precious belongings, a police investigation led by Sergeant Bandara (Mahendra Perera), the arrest of three men for a crime they may not have committed, custodial torture and brewing discontent. And there is a Sambar deer that becomes a bone of contention.

Of course, Vithanage, best known for Death on a Full Moon Day and August Sun (both which are about people grappling with the repercussions of civil war and ethnic violence), isn't given to simplistic, judgmental delineation of characters.

The conflicting signals that he seamlessly weaves into the Paradise narrative without seeking to make anything too obvious is meant to spark questions more than provide answers. In fact, the apparent answers that the film points towards - many of them are in response to questions related to gender, to Ravana, Lord Rama, Sita and the Agni Pareeksha she was subjected to - are only suggestions and not last words.

The storyline abounds in intriguing ambiguities as Vithanage approaches the problems that Amritha and Kesav encounter as they try to find a way around the crisis. They are led further and further into a quagmire in the process.

The man is pragmatic to the point of being self-serving. The woman's moral compass, in contrast, is intact. So, the issues that they grapple with are emotional, ethical and marital and the gap between how they view the world and what they want from it is a yawning one.

The two leads deliver impeccable performances that are marked by restraint and quiet power. Roshan Mathew is an epitome of poise even as he plays a man who appears to be amiable on the face of it but, when push comes to shove, has no qualms about making questionable moves. He modulates the shifts to perfection.

Darshana Rajendran is the core of Paradise. With her eyes alone she conveys a whole of world of emotions - joy, fear, doubt, agony - with minimal effort. Hers is a performance of astounding and enriching clarity.

The film is about a world floundering in a deep hole and in need of healing, but in his Paradise, writer and director Prasanna Vithanage ensures that nothing is amiss. It is beyond masterful.

"Still Working 70-Hour Weeks": Anupam Mittal On Pic With Shark Tank Judges

Infosys founder Narayana Murthy recently suggested that India's youth must work for 70 hours every week to boost the country's overall work productivity and economy. This remark created a stir online with some entrepreneurs supporting the idea while others questioned the long-term health implications of having a work schedule consisting of unreasonable and extremely long working hours. Now, Shark Tank India judge and Shaadi.com founder Anupam Mittal took to X, formerly Twitter, and shared a selfie with the judges of the show. He wrote, "After all these years, still working 70-hour weeks."

The selfie features Mr Mittal alongside boAt CEO and Co-founder Aman Gupta, CEO and Co-founder of CarDekho Amit Jain, Executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals Limited Namita Thapar, and CEO and Co-founder of Sugar Cosmetics Vineeta Singh.

Since being shared, his post has amassed 3.2 lakh views and over six thousand likes.

"You are an Entrepreneur that's why. Tell me, If you are an employee in Infosys or any other company, where the only reason to do work is money (even the salaries are like offered by Infosys) then? There is difference bw an Entrepreneur and Employee," a user commented. To which, Mr Mittal said, "I was an employee once but treated my job the same as i do now."

Another added, "Working 70 hours a week or more as an entrepreneur makes sense, but do you ask your employees also to work for 70 hours? If employees are side hustling for their own business that makes sense but organizations do not approve of that."

"Work is when you have billable hours for playing golf, dining at Michelin star restaurants, and giving empty 'motivational' speeches to temporarily embarassed millionaires," remarked a third user.

"This isn't work, my good man," commented a person.

A person said, "It's a choice not a mandate. And it shouldn't be forced just because Mr Murthy cited it."

Meanwhile, Shark Tank is a reality show where startups seek investment from established businessmen. Season 3 of 'Shark Tank India' will stream on the OTT platform Sony Liv. "Best Thing About Virat, Rohit Is...": Babar On His 'Favourite Batters'

Rivalries exist in every sport but it isn't often that fans see rivals respecting each other's game. Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam expressed his admiration for India's Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma while also hailing New Zealand's Kane Williamson as some of the top batters he admires. Babar, who himself is considered as one of the finest batters in the world, explained what he likes the most about superstars like Kohli, Rohit, and Williamson who have been serving their respective countries for a long time.

In a video shared by Star Sports, Babar said that it's the ability of Kohi, Rohit and Williamson to get the team out of difficult situations that he admires the most.

"Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Kane Williamson are my favourite batters in the world. They're the top players in the world. They read the conditions well, that's why they are the best. I admire them," he said.

"The best thing I like about Virat, Rohit and Kane is how they get the team out of difficult situations and score runs against tough bowling. This is what I try to learn from them," he further said.

When it comes to the Cricket World Cup 2023, the likes of Kohli and Rohit have done phenomenally well, scoring runs for fun as the Indian team remains unbeaten in the tournament after 5 matches. Williamson, on the other hand, has struggled to even make it to New Zealand's playing XI because of injury troubles. Despite his absence, however, the Kiwis are well in fray to qualify for the semi-finals.

Pakistan skipper Babar, however, is staring at his team's elimination from the World Cup. In six matches, Pakistan have only gone on to win two matches in this World Cup.

What Are Israel's New Secret Weapon "Sponge Bombs" And How They Work?

Ahead of an expected full-blown invasion, Israel on Friday "expanded" its operations in the Gaza Strip and said that its air force conducted extensive strikes on Hamas' tunnels and other infrastructure.

In a televised news briefing, Israel's military spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said that their ground forces were expanding their operations, days after the Hamas members attacked Israeli towns and killed over 1,400 people.

"Following the series of strikes of the last days, the ground forces are extending the ground operations tonight," Daniel Hagari said late on Friday.

In a statement on Saturday, Israel said that its fighter jets struck 150 "underground targets" in northern Gaza during an intense night of raids.

The sites hit included terror tunnels, underground combat spaces, and additional underground infrastructure, the Israeli military statement said.

"Furthermore, several Hamas terrorists were killed", the statement added.

Following days of relentless bombing in retaliation to the surprise October 7 Hamas attack, Israeli troops had also made limited ground incursions on Wednesday and Thursday.

However, the extensive Hamas tunnel network, which is said to be hundreds of kilometers long and up to 80 meters deep, represents the greatest challenge to Israel. The Israeli forces are reportedly making "sponge bombs" to tackle this challenge.

What are "sponge bombs"?

Being called Israel's "new secret weapon", a "sponge bomb" is a kind of chemical grenade.

It contains no explosives but can be used to seal off gaps or tunnel entrances.

How do "sponge bombs" work?

As per reports, the "sponge bombs" are encased within a protective plastic container, which has a metal barrier that divides two distinct liquids.

Once activated, these liquids merge and advance toward their intended destination.

Earlier in 2021, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reportedly deployed these devices during exercises in a mock tunnel system near the Gaza border.

Watch: Asked About 'Fog Advantage', Mohammed Shami Schools Reporter

On his return to the playing XI, India pacer Mohammed Shami shone with the ball against New Zealand in their World Cup game at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala last week. Shami registered a five-wicket haul and won the 'Player of the Match' award as India defeated the Kiwis to continue their winning streak in the tournament. After the game, Shami addressed the media during a post-match press conference. During the interaction, Shami trolled the journalists with some hilarious one-liners.

The India vs New Zealand match was halted briefly after fog descended above the ground. On being asked whether the same put India in a state of advantage, Shami schooled the journalist over the same

Here's the video:

The thick cloud descended on the picturesque HPCA Stadium from the nearby snow-capped peaks as India were chasing down New Zealand's 273.

India were 100-2 in 15.4 overs at the time when the umpires took the players off the field for a stoppage which lasted around 10 minutes.

Shami added that ground staff were doing all they could to produce a decent surface.

"There is no complaint because it was the same for both the teams," said man of the match Shami.

"We cannot say anything to the groundsman because he is helpless, it's his job, he tries very hard.

"In India and abroad, there are up and downs. Sometimes they play on wet grounds. Sometimes we play on dry grounds. No complaints."

Who Is Iftikhar Ahmed Talking To? Viral Video Leaves Social Media Baffled

As the cricket world comes to senses following Pakistan's embarrassing defeat against Afghanistan in a Cricket World Cup 2023 match on Monday, a video has emerged on social media that has left fans baffled. In the video, Pakistan all-rounder Iftikhar Ahmed could be seen talking to someone. But, fans failed to spot anyone in the frame that the Pakistan star could be talking to. The video has spread like wildfire on social media, leaving cricket lovers gobsmacked in an attempt to solve this mystery.

Many fans have shared the video across social media platforms, asking if anyone can explain who Iftikhar is talking to. But, there's little evidence to solve the mystery. Here's the video:

After the match, Iftikhar admitted that Pakistan's spinners have been widely ineffective in the World Cup so far.

"We do have finger spinners in our team, including me and (Mohammad) Nawaz. Yes, the role of our spinners hasn't been that effective here. But we will keep trying to improve. That's all we can do," Iftikhar said after the match to reporters.

"Frankly speaking, this was a wicket of 300-plus. But, their bowlers did trouble us. As a batting unit, we need to improve."

Even fielding is something that has left the Pakistan team down this tournament.

"We made a lot of mistakes during our fielding, I admit. But, we need to improve; that's the only option we have for now. If you are playing against a world-class side, you have to perform at a similar level across departments. Only then you will be able to survive."

Pakistan now have to win their remaining games and also hope for some favourable results if they are to qualify for the semi-finals.

"We can definitely bounce back. There's no doubt that we possess the abilities, and we have world-class players in our side."

"We still have a lot of matches left. But we have to win them all to get into the top four," Iftikhar signed off.

"World Must Do More": UN Agencies Say Gaza Situation 'Catastrophic'

The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is "catastrophic," five United Nations agencies said Saturday, calling for more international help as conditions deteriorate in the densely populated coastal enclave.

Their statement came as Israel said it would step up its strikes in Gaza to increase pressure on Hamas, and its senior officers warned troops to be ready to enter the besieged Palestinian territory.

Since shock Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7 left 1,400 dead, Israel has launched devastating air and ground bombardments of Gaza. The Hamas authorities say 4,385 people have died.

The statement by the UN agencies came as the first aid trucks arrived in Gaza from Egypt on Saturday.

"More than 1.6 million people in Gaza are in critical need of humanitarian aid," said the statement from agencies including the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, the children's agency.

"Children, pregnant women and the elderly remain the most vulnerable. Nearly half of Gaza's population are children," it added.

"Gaza was a desperate humanitarian situation before the most recent hostilities," it added.

"It is now catastrophic. The world must do more."

The other three agencies to sign the statement were the World Food Programme, the development agency UNDP and the UNFPA, the population fund.

Jeff Bezos' Old Amazon Review Of Milk Goes Viral, Elon Musk Reacts

Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos used to review products on the e-commerce website between the years 2000-2006. In these six years, the tech billionaire, reviewed six products. Now, an old review by Mr Bezos has resurfaced on the internet and it has caught the eye of SpaceX and Tesla Chief Elon Musk.

The Amazon founder reviewed a bottle of Tuscan Dairy Whole Vitamin D Milk in 2006. He wrote on the e-commerce website, "I love milk so much that I've been drinking it since the day I was born. I don't think it was Tuscan though."

A screengrab of this product review was shared on the microblogging platform X, formerly Twitter, by user Trung Phan. "Jeff Bezos has 9 product reviews on Amazon...including this gem on a jug of Tuscan milk," he wrote in the caption. Mr Musk reacted to the same with a laughing face emoji.

This hilarious review amassed a lot of reactions on social media. "Legend. Oatly would pay him a lot of money to switch over lol," said a user.

"You could buy milk on Amazon in 2006?" wrote a surprised user.

"I actually kind of respect that he just decided to abandon doing reviews but still left his milk one up. Keep looking forward, never look back," commented a person.

Another added, "Bezos gave a much more positive review of Tuscan milk than the average reviewer did!"

"Haha, love it! Even with all his success, it's great to see Jeff Bezos take the time for a bit of review fun. Gotta appreciate the little things," remarked a  person.

As per Amazon, Mr Bezos' oldest review is for the 1997 Academy Award-winning movie 'Life is Beautiful' This review was published by the tech billionaire on March 17, 2000.  He gave the Italian movie a five-star rating and said,, "This movie is absolutely all it's cracked up to be. Hysterically funny and simultaneously a tear jerker -- it's ultimately very uplifting. The cinematography is also fantastic -- amazing use of color. The DVD has dubbed english as an option, but I strongly recommend going with the subtitles instead so you can hear Benigni's amazing acting and passion. Too bad the DVD doesn't include any deleted scenes. With Benigni, I think it would be particularly fun to see out-takes. Absolutely a great movie!"

"Shame On You": Justin Trudeau Booed In Canada Mosque Over Israel-Hamas War

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau faced backlash during his recent visit to a mosque in Toronto due to his response to the Israel-Hamas conflict. The video of the Prime Minister encountering the angry crowd has gained widespread attention and gone viral on various social media platforms.

According to The Toronto Sun, Trudeau attended a mosque on Friday in the Etobicoke area of Toronto, a visit the Prime Minister's Office did not tell the media about in advance and which, as of Friday evening, had still not appeared on his public itinerary. However, later, the Prime Minister's Office confirmed Trudeau's visit to the International Muslims Organization of Toronto, stating that it was to show support for those affected in the Muslim community by the events in the Middle East.

Several people posted the video to X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter, that depicts a brief moment during the visit, in which some people gathered in the mosque are heard saying "shame" and urging a facilitator not to let Trudeau speak at the podium. The video shows Trudeau addressing the dozens gathered, thanking them for allowing him to "pray alongside you in this difficult time."

The video also depicted protesters assembled outside the mosque as Prime Minister Trudeau was departing. The protesters were urging the Prime Minister to advocate for a ceasefire in the conflict.

"Everyone is hurt and hurting; everyone is grieving; everyone is scared of what this means," Trudeau told reporters on Friday in Brampton, Ontario, when asked if his caucus is at odds over how the Liberals should respond.

The Toronto Sun reported that Toronto-area Liberal MP Salma Zahid, who is chair of the Canada-Palestine Parliamentary Friendship Group, had written a letter to the Canadian PM that laid out certain demands in consideration of 33 MPs.

The letter demands Canada join the call for an immediate ceasefire, help facilitate the opening of a humanitarian corridor, and stand up for international law. It was signed by 23 backbench Liberal MPs, eight NDP MPs, and both Green Party MPs.

"International law is clear that innocent civilians and all those not taking part in the fighting must on no account be attacked and must be spared and protected," the letter said.

On Thursday, a dozen Muslim, Jewish, and Arab MPs from the Liberal caucus met to discuss the conflict.

Israel declared war against Hamas after the Palestinian group killed 1,400 Israelis in a brazen attack on October 7. Hamas, which Canada considers a terrorist organization, has control over the Gaza Strip, according to The Toronto Sun.

Tensions have risen across the Middle East as Israel has retaliated with airstrikes and cut off the Palestinian territory's access to water, food, and electricity. The United Nations says this violates international humanitarian law.

"Hamas, Putin Represent Different Threats, But...": Biden In Rare Address

President Joe Biden on Thursday said Hamas and Russia are both out to "annihilate" democracies, in an impassioned speech to the nation from the Oval Office where he made the case for assistance to Ukraine and Israel as a vital US interest.

Hamas and Russian President Vladimir Putin "represent different threats but they share this in common: they both want to completely annihilate a neighboring democracy," Biden said in the prime-time speech.

"We can't let petty partisan angry politics get in the way of our responsibility as a great nation. We cannot and will not let terrorists like Hamas and tyrants like Putin win. I refuse to let that happen," Biden said in a televised address to the nation.

He said he would ask Congress on Friday to approve massive funding to help Ukraine and Israel, arguing that this was an investment for the United States' future as a global leader.

"It is a smart investment that's going to pay dividends for American security for generations," the 80-year-old Democrat said in just the second speech of his presidency delivered from behind the historic Resolute Desk.

"American leadership is what holds the world together. American alliances are what keep us, America, safe. American values are what make us a partner that other nations want to work with," he said.

"America is a beacon to the world. Still. Still," he said.

Fresh from a whirlwind trip to Israel this week, Biden wants to win over war-weary voters and hardline Republicans as he ramps up his 2024 reelection bid.

The White House is said to be teeing up a huge request to Congress for a $100 billion package that would include funding for Israel in its war with Hamas and also for Ukraine's battle against Russian invasion.

Tying together two conflicts an ocean away from the United States is a bid by Biden to frame them as part of a bigger struggle to shape the world order and protect Americans at home.

- Somber setting of Oval -

Presidents traditionally reserve speeches from the solemn setting of the Oval Office for moments of key national significance.

Biden's only previous address from there was in June when he hailed a deal with Congress to avert what would have been a catastrophic US debt default.

But Congress has now been paralyzed for more than two weeks as divided Republicans, who control the majority in the House, fail repeatedly to agree on electing a House speaker.

Hard-right Republicans, and a growing number of voters, are also strongly opposed to adding to the $43.9 billion in security assistance that the United States has committed to Ukraine since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.

US media reported that Friday's package request will include $10 billion in emergency assistance for Israel and $60 billion for Ukraine.

Just before the speech, Biden spoke to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Zelensky welcomed the recent delivery of ATACMS long-range missiles from the United States, adding: "Ukraine is grateful for the vital and enduring US support in our fight for freedom and against Russian aggression."

Biden has also been striking a statesmanlike tone on the Israel-Hamas war with an eye on US voters where there is strong support for Israel -- even if leftwing Democrats oppose his stance.

In Tel Aviv on Wednesday, Biden backed Israel as it gears up for a ground invasion of Gaza after the October 7 attacks by the Palestinian militant group Hamas which killed more than 1,400 people.

But he also brokered a deal to get some aid through Egypt into the Gaza Strip, where Israeli bombing since has killed at least 3,785 Palestinians, most of them civilians, according to the Hamas health ministry.

The threat of a wider Middle Eastern conflict meanwhile looms in the background.

The United States has already moved two aircraft carriers into the eastern Mediterranean to deter Iran or Lebanon's Hezbollah, both allies of Hamas, from getting involved.

On Netherlands' "Little Guys" Tag, Ex Coach Gives Befitting Response

The Netherlands' victory over South Africa in the Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign is nothing short of a fairytale story. Scott Edwards' men successfully defended the total of 245 runs in a rain-affected match on Tuesday, showing what they can do against one of the finest teams in the world. South Africa, who were unbeaten in the tournament so far, were simply outmatched by the passion the Dutch players showed on the field in Dharamsala. The result also prompted former Netherlands coach Ryan Campbell to give a befitting reply to those branding his former team ‘Little Guys'.

Campbell was the Netherlands' head coach since taking over the job in January 2017. In May 2022, however, Ryan Cook replaced Campbell after the latter had to be admitted to the hospital following cardiac arrest.

On Tuesday, Campbell was a delighted man, seeing his former side setting the World Cup on fire with their performance against the Proteas.

“For any cricket fans out there who still don't want “Little Guys” at the @cricketworldcup, I hope you enjoyed today,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

"We go into every game with our plans and our ways that we're going to try and win the game. For us it's just about playing our best brand of cricket and we feel like if we play well enough on the day, we can beat any side," Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards said at the post-match press conference.

It was also the Netherlands' third 50-over World Cup win and first in 16 years. They recorded their maiden victory against Namibia in the 2003 edition in South Africa. Their second win was against Scotland in the 2007 edition in the West Indies.

Netherlands made it to the main tournament in India through the qualifying round and Edwards said his side did not come here just to make up numbers.

"Yeah, absolutely. I think after qualifying we were pretty quick to set our minds to what we wanted to do at this tournament. We weren't coming here just to have fun and enjoy it. We're here to win games of cricket and give ourselves the best chance to make the next stage," Edwards said.

"South Africa is obviously a very strong side and they'll be close to that semi-final spot. So, if we want to be amongst them, we've got to beat sides like this," said the 27-year-old wicketkeeper.

"Ajeeb Si Betaabi": Shikhar Dhawan's Emotional Post For Son After Divorce

Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan was recently granted divorce by a Delhi Court on grounds of "cruelty" inflicted on him by his estranged wife Aesha Mukerji. The court had given mandatory visitation rights to Mr Dhawan to meet his son in India and Australia. Further, it also ordered Ms Mukerji to bring their son to India for visitation purposes. Amid this, Mr Dhawan took to Instagram to share an emotional moment with his son Zoravar.

The ace cricketer shared a screenshot of a video call with his 10-year-old boy, who is in Australia. In the picture, Zoravar is seen standing wearing a hoodie while Mr Dhawan is seen smiling and looking at him. He also added famous poetry by Gulzar alongside the picture in the caption, "Ek Ajeeb Si Betaabi Hai Tere Bin, Reh Bhi Lete Hai Aur Raha Bhi Nahi Jaata."

Since being shared 16 hours ago, the sentimental post has amassed 2.3 million views and over six lakh likes.

Cricketer Harbhajan Singh reacted to the post with a red heart emoji.

"Hope we see you both together soon!!" said a user.

Another wrote, " I am fan of your attitude towards life and all that you do and say about others."

"Paaaji u r a gem," said a person.

"You are one of the nicest man, you deserve all the happiness, May you get to be with your son very soon !" commented a person.

"You are an inspiration for all of us.lots of love Paaji," added another user.

Mr Dhawan and Aesha Mukerji married in 2012. Both Aesha and Zoraver are Australian citizens. Aesha was previously married and has two daughters with first husband.

Family Court Judge Harish Kumar accepted Mr Dhawan's accusations against his wife after it stated that she was unable to prove the allegations as false. The judge observed that Mr Dhawan was subjected to mental agony by his wife who forced him into being in a "long-distance marriage" by living in Australia and keeping him away from his son for years.

Watch: Pakistan Stars Hail Rohit's Pull Shot, Ex-Captain Goes On Epic Rant

Captain Rohit Sharma rose to the occasion on Saturday as India mauled Pakistan by 7 wickets in their World Cup 2023 match in Ahmedabad. Chasing a target of 192, Rohit was on the attack from the very first bowl. Rohit scored 86 off just 63 balls, striking six sixes and as many fours, as India crossed the finishing line in 30.3 overs. The Pakistan pacers made the job easy for Rohit by bowling short-pitched deliveries as the Indian captain executed his pull-shot game to perfection.

Ahead of Saturday's blockbuster match, the International Cricket Council (ICC) posted a video where the Pakistan players were asked to name a player who plays the best pull shots.

In the video, Haris Rauf, Imam-ul-Haq, Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali and Babar Azam all took Rohit's name.

While pointing out the same video, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt tore into the players of failing to execute their plans, despite knowing that Rohit has the best range of pull shots under his sleeves.

"A few days back, the Pakistan players were asked 'who plays the best pull shots?' All five of them took Rohit Sharma's name. I don't know what the statisticians are doing. What are they telling the players. This is very weird that five players from the playing XI are saying that Rohit Sharma plays the pull shot efficiently, and you're still allowing him to score runs off that," Butt said in a video uploaded on his YouTube channel.

Rohit hit the ball to all parts of the ground with his delightful flicks and pulls to entertain an almost all-Indian crowd at the world's biggest cricket stadium after Pakistan fans were effectively banned from attending.

He fell attempting another hit off Shaheen Shah Afridi to get caught at mid-wicket, but Iyer and KL Rahul took the team home with ease.
