Amid Ranveer Allahbadia Row, Javed Akhtar On 'Slang In Comedy' Goes Viral

Amid the backlash over podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia's crass remarks at a roast show, a video of poet-lyricist Javed Akhtar sharing his perspective on whether slang is acceptable in comedy has gone viral. Mr Akhtar, known as much for his wit as for his poetry, sat down for a chat with comics Sapan Verma, Biswa Kalyan Rath and Shreeja Charturvedi last year in an episode of Chill Sesh.

During the interaction, Mr Rath asked him about his views on stand-up comedians using slang. "When we do comedy, we use slang and people laugh. Gradually, it becomes a habit. We don't feel bad about it even though others may. So what is your perspective? Is slang acceptable in the context of comedy?" Mr Rath asked.

In response, Mr Akhtar started with his signature storytelling. "I will tell you something. Odisha, Bihar and Mexico, anywhere in the world where there is poverty, people eat lots of chilli because the food is bland. So just to get some taste, they eat chilli. Gaali is the chilli of language. If you can speak good language and if you are witty enough, you don't need this chilli. If the conversation is bland, you will put some gaalis in it," he said, drawing a round of applause.

Comic Sapan Verma said Mr Akhtar had poetically insulted stand-up comedians. "We are feeling bad, but also feeling good."

Ms Chaturvedi asked if he felt the same about songs with double-meaning lyrics. "Is it not a release for some people to talk about these things or is it just bad?"

Mr Akhtar replied, "What kind of people they must be? they need a psychiatrist, not a song. Who gets relief if they listen to a vulgar song? The idea is frightening."

Allahbadia, also known as the BeerBiceps Guy, recently appeared in an episode of India's Got Latent hosted by Raina. A short clip from the show, which is now viral, shows Allahbadia asking a contestant, "Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?"

The remark has sparked a massive row and put the spotlight on mature content in comedy shows that make it to streaming platforms and are available to all age groups, including children. Many have said such content can impact children negatively. They have also flagged racist remarks in the garb of comedy that may create social tensions. Demands have been raised to regulate such content.

Allahbadia also faces a police case for his remarks. A Parliamentary committee, too, has taken note and may summon him. The podcaster has issued an apology in which he has said comedy was not his forte and that his remark was the result of a lapse in judgment.

"Absolutely Mindless": Rohit, Gambhir's Strategy Blasted By Ex India Star

Team India completed a successful run-chase of 305 runs against England in the second ODI at Cuttack on Sunday, with skipper Rohit Sharma leading the charge with the bat. Though it turned out to be another comfortable victory for India, some of the Gautam Gambhir-led team management's decisions continue to baffle experts. Former India cricketer Dodda Ganesh didn't mince words on social media as he asked some critical questions.

Strangely, all-rounder Axar Patel was sent ahead of wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul, not for the first time in this series. Rahul, who is a top-order batter by trait, has often seen his batting position being shuffled on the basis of the team's needs. He isn't a traditional wicketkeeper as well, but has been deployed in that position to help the team strike a better balance.

While not many objected to picking Rahul as India's wicket-keeper over Rishabh Pant, who continues to warm the bench, former Ganesh did object to Rahul's batting position. The keeper-batter came out to play at the No. 6 spot in the order, behind Axar, who is considered to be a 'bowling all-rounder'.

"Axar Patel again ahead of KL Rahul? I'm speechless. Does it make any sense to push a genuine batter like Rahul to no 6? When you're 5/3, do you've the courage to send Axar on a tricky pitch? If not, what sense does this experiment make? Absolutely mindless this," Ganesh wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The only reason experts have been able to perceive behind this change in the batting order for Rahul is head coach Gautam Gambhir preferring as many left-hand right-hand combinations in the middle.

As for the match, Rohit soared back to form with his 32nd ODI hundred. His knock laid the foundation of India's series-winning performance, as the hosts went 2-0 up against England, with one game to spare.

"...when people have played for a number of years and scored so many runs over the years...that means something," Rohit said in a video shared by BCCI.

"I've played this game for a long time now and I understand what is required of me. So, it's just about going out there and doing your things and this was, what I did today was, one of my things." '

"In my mind, it was just about doing things that I do, try and bat the way I do. I've been here long enough... one or two knocks is not going to change my mind and the way I bat. But (it was) just another day in the office," the 37-year-old added.

Trump Mocks Time Magazine After Cover Puts Musk Behind President's Desk

Time magazine's latest cover featured billionaire Elon Musk sitting behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, a move likely aimed at stoking US President Donald Trump's ire. The otherwise simple red cover showed Musk, coffee in hand, sitting behind the presidential desk, sandwiched between American and presidential flags.

The provocative cover was accompanied by a lengthy article on Musk's "war on Washington" by upending the federal government that has left "millions of government workers [to] find themselves" at DOGE chief's mercy."

The publication seems to have hit its mark, with President Trump shrugging it off claiming he hadn't seen the latest issue. He mockingly asked if the Time was "still in business", just weeks after boasting about being named the magazine's 'Person of the Year' for 2024-- an honour he first received after winning the presidential election in 2016.

Addressing the media at the White House during a meeting with the Japanese prime minister, Trump was asked if he had seen the cover. Replying, he said he had not yet seen the cover and said, "No... Is Time Magazine still in business? I didn't even know that."

He went on to praise the South African-born billionaire saying, "Elon is doing a great job" by "finding tremendous fraud and corruption and waste," which has included the Tesla CEO and his DOGE lieutenants essentially taking control of America's 2.2-million-member federal workforce and begin a dramatic reshaping of government.

Trump has put Musk in charge of what both men call the Department of Government Efficiency. According to Trump,

"He's got a staff that's fantastic," Trump said about Musk's DOGE team and announced that the CEO of Tesla and founder of SpaceX will soon be made available for press briefings so he could talk about his efforts in massive government restructuring.

Though Trump pretended to be unaware that Time is "still in business", he was ecstatic about making the magazine's cover just a few months ago when he was named its "Person of the Year."

"Time Magazine, getting this honour for the second time, I think I like it better this time actually," he said in December.

Rs 40 Lakh Stolen From Musician Pritam's Mumbai Office, Cops Launch Probe

A theft of Rs 40 lakh has been reported from the Mumbai office of Bollywood music composer Pritam Chakraborty, police said on Sunday.

The incident came to light when the amount, which was kept in the office by Pritam's manager, went missing, said the Mumbai police.

According to a complaint lodged at Malad Police Station by Pritam's manager, Vineet Chheda, the money was brought to the office a few days ago for work-related purposes.

Chheda received the amount and kept it in the office, where an employee named Ashish Sayal was present at the time. The manager later left for Pritam's residence to get some documents signed.

Upon returning, he discovered that the bag containing the money was missing. Other office staff informed him that Sayal had taken the bag, claiming he was going to deliver it to Pritam's house.

However, when Chheda attempted to contact Sayal, his phone was switched off.

He then visited Sayal's residence but found him missing. Following this, Chheda approached Malad Police Station and lodged a complaint.

The police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter.

Further details are awaited.

"BJP Can't Defeat Us In This Lifetime": Kejriwal's Old Video Goes Viral

As the Election Commission trends indicated, the BJP was well above the halfway mark in the Delhi Assembly elections on Saturday, a pall of gloom descended at the AAP office while celebrations broke out at the BJP headquarters. Exit polls had also shown a BJP victory in the polls as the AAP was eyeing a hat-trick in the national capital.

However, this election result is heavily trending on social media; an old video of Arvind Kejriwal, where he is seen saying that the BJP will never be able to defeat the Aam Aadmi Party in this lifetime, is also going viral.

Watch the video here:

Addressing a party workers' meeting in 2023 in Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal had said, "Their intention is to topple the AAP government, and Narendra Modi ji wants to form a government in Delhi this way; they know they can't defeat us through elections. I want to tell Narendra Modi ji that you cannot defeat us in this life, and you will have to take another birth to defeat us in Delhi."

Here is the full video of the speech:

Meanwhile, The BJP is poised to form a government in Delhi after more than 26 years, with the latest Election Commission trends showing the party ahead in 45 of the 70 assembly seats while the AAP was leading in 25.

According to the Election Commission (EC) website, the BJP's vote share was 47.01 per cent till 11.55 am while AAP's stood at 43.16 per cent. AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal was trailing the BJP's Parvesh Verma by 430 votes in the high-profile New Delhi seat after eight rounds of counting.

Kejriwal's former deputy Manish Sisodia was leading by 3,869 votes in Jangpura after the fifth round. In Kalkaji, Chief Minister and AAP candidate Atishi was trailing the BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri by 3,231 votes, the EC data showed.

Kotak Family Buys Sea-Facing Building In Mumbai, Costliest Buy Ever

Billionaire Uday Kotak has bought 12 residential units in central Mumbai's upmarket Worli for Rs 202 crore, as per documents shared on Thursday.

Mr Kotak -- the founder-director of private sector lender Kotak Mahindra Bank -- has bought 12 units in the Shiv Sagar building at the coveted Worli Sea Face, along with family members, as per documents accessed by Zapkey.

The Kotaks seem to have paid over Rs 2.7 lakh per sq ft for acquiring the units in a neighbourhood that is home to many prominent people from trade and industry, as per the documents.

This makes it one of the most expensive buys in the financial capital and probably the country as well.

The family bought the first house of 735 sq ft house on May 9 last year, and 11 others were registered on January 30 this year, as per the documents.

It has so far acquired 7,418 sq ft carpet area for Rs 201.88 crore in the flats on the ground, first and second floors, the data said, adding that the flats have been bought by Mr Kotak, his wife Pallavi, sons Dhawal and Jay and also father Suresh.

It can be noted that in the past, some investors have bought all units in a residential development to have complete control, which allows them the freedom to raze the property and rebuild if so desired.

Mr Kotak is a non-executive director of the fourth largest private sector lender and owns nearly 26 per cent in the bank.

As per Hurun Global Rich List, Mr Kotak was the tenth richest person in the country as of March 2023 with a net worth of USD 14 billion. The bank promoters had raised over Rs 6,900 crore through a stake sale in 2020.

Virat Kohli Not Picked For 1st ODI vs England. Rohit Says: "Last Night..."

Virat Kohli has not been picked for the first India vs England ODI on Thursday. The ODI is one of the only three matches that India will be playing ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025, that starts on February 19, and Kohli missing the game comes as a major blow for the Rohit Sharma-led team. Already the team is dealing with the injury of Jasprit Bumrah, with his availability in question. Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami are also coming back after a long injury break.

India captain Rohit Sharma said at the toss: "Jaiswal and Harshit are making their debuts, unfortunately Virat isn't playing, he had a knee problem last night." The visuals painted a grim picture. Videos showed Kohli walking gingerly with a heavily strapped right knee. The extent of the injury is not known but Gautam Gambhir's Indian cricket team management is clearly not taking a chance.

The 36-year-old's presence in the match was highly anticipated as despite his Test struggles, there is very little doubt about Virat's greatness in ODIs. Since the 2023-start, he has made 1,435 runs in 30 ODIs at an average of 65.22, with six centuries and eight fifties. His best score is 166*. His strike rate is 98.42.

He top-scored during the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup (both tournament and in all-time lists), with 765 runs in 11 matches at an average of 95.62, with three matches and six fifties, winning the 'Player of the Tournament' award. During the Sri Lanka ODIs last year, he could score just 58 runs in three innings, with best score of 24.

India captain Rohit Sharma would have bowled first on winning the toss. "We would have bowled first, but regardless of the toss, it's about executing our plans. Now that we're bowling first, we aim to start aggressively and set the tone early. It's good to be back after a break, it's time to reflect and refocus.

England (Playing XI): Ben Duckett, Philip Salt(w), Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler(c), Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood

India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul(w), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Harshit Rana, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami.

Zomato CEO Gives Update On "Pay Rs 20 Lakh" For Chief Of Staff Job Listing

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal has shared an update on the company's ongoing search for Chief of Staff candidates. He revealed that after vetting over 18,000 applications, the company offered jobs to 30 individuals, and 18 have already joined Zomato and its sister concerns, including Blinkit.

"These are exceptional people-founders who bootstrapped startups, engineers who rewrote entire tech stacks over a weekend, operators who turned chaos into scale, and fresh graduates with sharp minds," Mr Goyal wrote on LinkedIn.

He said the selection process focused on finding individuals with a long-term mindset - those who understand "compounding impact" and were committed to building for the future. Of the 18 who joined so far, four work directly with Mr Goyal, and two hold Chief of Staff roles.

Mr Goyal also addressed concerns about the applicants who were supposed to pay Rs 20 lakh upfront for consideration. He clarified that none of the selected candidates had to pay anything, saying, "They're being handsomely compensated for the value they bring, and nobody paid anything to work with us."

In November 2024, the unusual job listing sparked controversy, and Mr Goyal had to explain that the Rs 20 lakh clause was merely a filter to identify candidates who valued fast-track career opportunities without being deterred by constraints.

"The 'You have to pay us 20 lacs' was merely a filter to find people who had the power to appreciate the opportunity of a fast-track career," he wrote.

He further clarified that Zomato had no intention of actually charging anyone and that the company would reject most applications from those who even mentioned the money.

Deepinder Goyal also announced a new job opening for candidates who use artificial intelligence as their "second brain." He invited interested candidates to apply with the subject line: "I have a second brain."
