Video: IndiGo Crew Member Ties Rakhi On Flight, To Her Brother - The Pilot

Raksha Bandhan is the celebration of the unique bond between siblings. While it is celebrated with much zeal across the country, it is not uncommon for hectic schedules and work commitments to keep loved ones away from each other on the day of the festival. One sibling duo got the opportunity to celebrate the festival on a flight. Yes, Shubha,  an IndiGo Airlines cabin crew member got to celebrate the festival with her brother Gaurav, who was the pilot.

A video of the heartwarming moment shared on X [formerly Twitter] shows Shubha tying the sacred thread on Captain Gaurav's wrist and the pilot touching her feet.

The video begins with Shubha making a special announcement to passengers before the flight takes off. “In a profession like ours, it is not that every year we get to celebrate festivals and special moments with our loved ones back home, because it is important for us to take you back home so you can celebrate with your loved ones,” she says on the flight interphone system, adding, “That's why, today is a very special day for me and my brother Gaurav, who is on board today to make sure that we celebrate Raksha Bandhan together after many years.”

With Captain Gaurav standing next to her, she adds, “Like all brothers and sisters, we also laugh and cry, play and fight, but he's my rock, my best friend, my shoulder to lean on.” To this, the passengers begin applauding as Shubha proceeds to tie the rakhi on her brother's hand.

The tweet by IndiGo says, “At 30,000 feet or on the ground, the bond of a brother and sister remains special. A heartwarming moment on board today as our Check Cabin Attendant Shubha celebrates Rakhi with her brother Capt. Gaurav.”

Replying to the post, one user wrote, “Some might envy the job of the cabin & flight deck crew for their glamorised work profile. But nobody envys them for their odd working hours....nobody envys them when they are on the jobs, come rain, come shine, or festivals when all of enjoy at home. KUDOS to every crew member!”

“This is unbelievable, the bonds between brother & sister is unimaginable, no matter where we are. Proud to be an Indian,” wrote another.

“Truly heart-warming,” read a comment.

Google Adds New Features To AI-Based Search In India: All You Need To Know

Artificial intelligence (AI) has gained a lot of prominence in recent months. Using the generative model, the technology is capable of generating text, image and other media. This feature caught the eye of internet giant Google, which embedded it in its Search. This form of AI uses deep-learning models to identify the patterns and structures within existing data to generate new and original content. The generative AI gives contextual content along with text-based search results in the form of videos (explainers or DIY clips) and images to make a user understand the result better.

And now, taking a step further, Google has introduced generative AI to its Search tool for users in India and Japan that will show text or visual results in local languages.

How will the new feature change Search results?

According to a Google blog post, generative AI will help users better understand topics faster, uncover new viewpoints and insights and get things done more easily.

The short videos and images on the Search result page will be based on a conversational pattern, covering some of the aspects of the topic to give users the complete picture.

Explaining it further

Citing an example, Google said if a user asks a question like "Which is a good beginner trek in Himachal and how to prepare for it?" generative AI will help him/her to break down the topic faster.

The AI-powered Search will give an overview of key information to consider, with links to dig deeper - such as covering a follow-up question "How to take great photos on a trek?"

Context will be carried over from question-to-question.

Switching between languages

Google Search will also allow users to switch from an English result to Hindi by tapping the language toggle button. It will also read out the results with the help of text-to-speech feature (present as Listen button).

Google said it will soon add a microphone icon in conversational mode to allow users to ask follow-up questions instead of typing them.

Other features in AI-based Search

The Google blog said that it will use a wide range of voices for the Search results. It added that Search ads will continue to appear in dedicated ad slots throughout the page.

The feature was so far available only in the United States. After its rollout in India and Japan, Google said users will have the choice to opt in for it.

Police Warns Of Fake e-Challan Scam: Here's How It Works

Amid a rise in cybercrime, Faridabad police have warned citizens to beware of the new fake e-challan scam. According to the police. fraudsters are scamming citizens “by sending links of e-challan” and by creating exact copies of government websites.

Faridabad Police has urged citizens to not click on any links they receive in the name of e-challan. The authorities added that fraudsters can hack into your bank account with just one click on these fake links.

“If you receive a link for a traffic challan, don't click these links. By clicking upon these links for payment, fraudsters can hack your bank account,” read the text attached to an infographic. The police have also differentiated between the original link of the e-challan and the fake one.

“Cyber frauds are now making people their victims by using the growing trend of e-challan payment as a weapon,” DCP Hemendra Kumar Meena was quoted as saying.

Urging citizens to not click any type of links they receive through a text message, DCP Meena informed that the fraud messages are created in such a manner that it will conclude with a link. “You have been issued a challan. You can pay your fine by clicking on this link,” she said.

The authorities notified citizens about how they could differentiate between the original and the fake message. The statement informed that an original challan message will include “engine number, vehicle identification number (VIN) and other information about your vehicle.”

In addition, the official challan message will end with a government link: https://echallan.parivahan.gov.in/

However, the fake messages are being concluded with a link that doesn't include .gov.in at the end. The fake e-challan message will have links like https://echallan.parivahan.in/.

Faridabad police added that as soon as any vehicle owner clicks on the link and enters bank account number and card details, fraudsters first hack the person's phone and after some time they clear out the entire balance available in the account.

Police spokesperson Sube Singh said, “If you have been a victim of any online fraud, immediately call the National Cyber Complaint Portal number 1930 and register an online complaint at www.cybercrime.gov.in.”

He added that as soon as the victim files a complaint, the authorities stop the transaction of money from your account. Apart from this victims can also go to the nearest cyber police station, cyber help desk or a police station.

Airline Launches "Adult-Only" Section On Flights. Here's What It Means

An airline is offering an "adult-only" section on some routes to remove disruption of children's noises in flights for people travelling without families. According to The Hill, Turkish-Dutch leisure carrier Corendon Airlines plans to cater to passenger aged 16 and above who are seeking a child-free environment. Under the scheme, some seats will be reserved on the Airbus A350s used by the airline, the outlet added. These zones will be launched in November on flight between Amsterdam and Curacao - a Dutch Caribbean island.

"This zone on the plane is intended for travellers traveling without children and for business travellers who want to work in a quiet environment," a translated version of the airline's press release said.

If argued that these zones will also positively impact parents, who can "worry less about possible reactions from fellow passengers when their child is a bit busier or crying".

Corendon said the zone will be physically separated from the rest of the aircraft by walls and curtains, "creating a shielded environment that contributes to a calm and relaxed flight".

The front section of the aircraft will be utilised to create the "adult-only" zones with nine extra-large seats with additional legroom and 93 standard seats, the airline said.

These seats will cost an additional 45 euros ($49 or Rs 4,050) one way, while the extra-large seats will cost an extra 100 euros ($108 Rs 8,926).

Corendon Airlines is not the first-ever carrier to introduce such an innovative thing on the plane, it is likely the first carrier in the Netherlands.

Man Knocks Out Passenger Who Fell Asleep On His Shoulder In New York Train

In a shocking incident caught on camera, a person travelling on the New York City subway went berserk and knocked out a man sitting next to him who fell asleep on his shoulder. This violent outburst ignited a clash on the train with several passengers, as per a report in the New York Post.

A video of the same has gone viral on social media and shows the man shouting and cursing a passenger sitting in front of him. In a few seconds, he gets into a heated discussion with the commuter sitting next to him. "I speak your f***ing dialect and I know who the f*** you are. Go to sleep someplace ... Shut the f*** up already" the man screams. When the sleepy commuter whispers his response, the man gets agitated and smashes his elbow into his face multiple times. This leaves the sleepy commuter unconscious for a few seconds. In a few moments, the passenger, who seems to be a friend of the victim, jumps and punches the man. This continues for several minutes and other passengers sitting on the train quickly remove themselves from the scene.

According to authorities, the argument occurred at roughly 5:30 am on the northbound F train as it was making its way to the Forest Hills 71st Avenue stop. The 27-year-old victim was shouted at by the man in both Spanish and English for using him as a cushion.

As per the police, the fight didn't last very long since the victim and the other passenger got off the train as it entered the tube system, allowing the attacker to continue travelling on the train.

The victim denied any medical assistance and his friend did not report any injuries. An assault complaint has been filed against the attacker and police is still looking for him.

Sham Kaushal Deconstructs Sunny Deol's Viral Gadar 2 Hand Pump Scene

Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel's Gadar 2 has taken the country by storm. The sequel of Gadar: Ek Prem Katha continues to roar at the box office and how. After all, Gadar 2 is eyeing to enter the 500-crore club. From the songs to the action sequences, the film has struck a chord with critics and fans alike. Now, action director Sham Kaushal has opened up about the fan-favourite hand pump scene in the film. In a conversation with India Today, Sham Kaushal, who is Vicky Kaushal and Sunny Kaushal's father, revealed that the hand pump for him was not just a prop, “but an even bigger hero than Sunny Deol.” The veteran action director revealed, “It started on the page, with the writing and the direction. But executing it was my responsibility.”

Sham Kaushal added how even a minute change in the cinematography would have “ruined” the impact of the scene. He said, “Even a slight change to the closeups in that sequence would have ruined it. My take on it was that the hand pump wasn't a hand pump, but an even bigger hero than Sunny Deol had suddenly appeared off-screen behind him.”

Sham Kaushal said that it was a tactic to not reveal the hand pump in the first go, but to make it appear like a “hulk”.

“We didn't immediately reveal who he [Sunny Deol] had seen out of frame, but made it seem like an even bigger Hulk was standing there. Then we added reactions, and built tension, and only then did we reveal the hand pump. If we'd revealed the hand pump immediately, it wouldn't have been as fun,” said Sham Kaushal.

Talking about working with Sunny Deol, the action director said that personally, he is a “cool guy,” and revealed they would always “greet each other with a Punjabi jhappi” on the set. Sham Kaushal added that as soon as the actor comes in front of the camera, “It is like watching a lion.”

Gadar 2 was released on August 11. The film, apart from Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, also stars Utkarsh Sharma and Simrat Kaur.

Telangana Woman Delivers Baby On Road As Ambulance Runs Out Of Fuel

A pregnant woman delivered her baby on the side of a road in a remote area of Telangana's Nirmal district after she was carried across a stream while in labour. The ambulance that was supposed to pick her up had run out of diesel.

Gangamanim, a tribal woman, from the remotely located Thulasipet village of Pembi Mandal went into labour and was forced to deliver her baby boy on the side of the road after being stranded there for a reported four hours.

Gangamani's husband said that when she went into labour, they called for an ambulance. However, due to the lack of road connectivity, the ambulance could not reach them. With the help of villagers, she crossed the Dothi stream, but even on the other side, the ambulance did not arrive because it had reportedly run out of diesel.

"We even sent Rs 500 for the fuel over Google Pay, but the vehicle did not come. The baby was delivered on the road," the husband said.

Subsequently, a 108 ambulance arrived, cut the umbilical cord, and transported the woman and her newborn son to a nearby hospital. Both the baby and the mother are doing well now.

Nirmal district collector Varun Reddy told NDTV that the expected date of delivery for the baby was September 22.

"Usually in remote areas that are not easily accessible, we move the pregnant women a few days in advance. But this was almost four weeks before the expected date of delivery," Mr Reddy said.

The Collector denied reports that an ambulance could not reach on time due to a diesel shortage.

"The ambulance did reach the location, but since she was already in labour, she was not moved and they decided to deliver the baby there. Now, the baby and mother are doing well at the Community Health Centre in Khanapur," he said.

Mr Reddy acknowledged that there was no road connectivity to Thulasipet village after a bridge was washed away in floods last year.

"We have invited tenders for building a new bridge, but no one has responded yet," he said.

Opinion: Tomahto, Tomayto - Soaring Prices, Government In Denial

Wearing a garish gold necklace to parliament is allowed. A string of sparkling De Beers diamonds will also do. But, heaven help the Member of parliament who, a few weeks ago, wore a garland of tomatoes (and ginger) as a unique form of protest against sky-rocketing prices. Wearing tomatoes as jewellery was powerful imagery. However, the MP was admonished for doing so. In the season of Privilege Notices and suspensions, the Rajya Sabha MP from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was let off with a warning. I still have not figured out what his crime was. Which rule did he break?

Derailing RBI's Projections

In August came confirmation of what was largely expected - a huge jump in retail and food inflation figures. Over the last two months, prices of vegetables, spices and several other food items have hit a high. The year-on-year increase in the Consumer Food Price Index in June was 4.5%, which leaped to a whopping 11.5% in July. This was primarily on the back of the inflation rate for vegetables, which witnessed a sharp increase and rose to 37% year-on-year. The inflation rate surged to 13% for cereals and products, and 13.3% for pulses and products. For milk and products, it increased to 8.3%. Spices had surged 21%. Overall, in the food and beverages segment, the increase was over 10%.

Surging food prices have had a domino effect, materially changing India's inflation outlook. India's retail inflation rose to 7.4% year-on-year in July, surpassing the upper limit of Reserve Bank of India (RBI)'s tolerance band of 6%. This trend has led to the RBI upwardly revising India's Consumer Price Index inflation rate for the year from 5.1% to 5.4%. The RBI Governor has even warned that policymakers will have to stand ready to go beyond keeping a watchful eye, and deploy policy instruments if necessary.

Government In Denial

During the recently concluded monsoon session of parliament, this columnist had asked the government to provide the month-wise trend in the average prices of vegetables. On 21 July, in a written reply to the question, the Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution gave a surprising and misleading answer. The last row of the table annexed to the answer quoted prices of the 'rare' commodity that was bewildering. Titled "All-India Monthly Average Retail Prices of Tomato (Rs/kg)", the figures for 2023 were: 24.72 (January), 23.45 (February), 23.32 (March), 23.16 (April), 23.61 (May), and 32.58 (June). What is this government smoking!

Tomatoes were hovering around the double century-mark. As we write this, the prices have softened - but nowhere near what was presented on the floor of parliament. This columnist visited three vegetable markets each in Delhi and Kolkata for a reality check. It is a good case to bring a breach of privilege motion against the Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution for misleading Parliament. (Spare the feeble Minister of State. His seniors have turned this into an art form).

In the last few years, real-time wages are falling and unemployment is rising. The tomato, as a visual mnemonic, summarises the situation.

It is believed that the Portuguese were the first to introduce the tomato in India in the early 16th century. Referred to as the yellow or pink apple, natives called it the red berry or the vilayti begun (foreign brinjal). It acquired this name as it was mainly consumed by the British (vilayti). In fact, the French used to call tomatoes pommes d'amour (love apples). Going by current market prices, perhaps the most apt name for tomatoes was coined by the Italians, who used to call tomatoes pomi d'oro, meaning golden apples.

P.S. This comic strip created by RK Laxman thirty years ago is as relevant today as it was back then.

As NCP Factions Fight, Sharad Pawar Says "No Split, Just Democracy"

Nearly two months after Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra following a mutiny, the party's patriarch Sharad Pawar today denied reports of a split within NCP ranks.

Ajit Pawar, 63, was sworn in as the second Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra after months of speculation about his possible defection to the BJP, along with eight other leaders who followed him to join the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena-BJP government in the state.

Sharad Pawar, 82, said although a few NCP leaders have left the party to take a different political stance, this does not constitute a split.

"It's not like majority of the people from the party are going out. Some people have taken a different stand, democracy allows them to do so. It's not a split in the party," he said.

Supriya Sule, Sharad Pawar's daughter and NCP's Lok Sabha MP from Baramati, reiterated her father's remarks saying that the party is united and that there is no alliance with the BJP.

"Our president is Sharad Pawar and our state president is Jayant Patil. That is the status of our party at the moment and we stand by it. Our party is not in an alliance in any form with the BJP. Some of our people took a different stand and as per the process we have shared our views and inputs on the same with the speaker," Ms Sule said.

"Now, he (Ajit Pawar) has taken a stand that is against the party, and we have given a complaint to the assembly speaker and are awaiting his response," she added.

Earlier this week, Sharad Pawar, without naming his nephew Ajit Pawar, took a dig at those who rebelled against the party by saying that some of its members had left after the central government launched an inquiry against them through the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Banners were put up by Ajit Pawar's faction in Maharashtra's Beed this month, welcoming Sharad Pawar and requesting him to "bless" his politically estranged nephew.

NCP banners carrying pictures of both the Pawars were put up across Beed hours before Sharad Pawar's rally in Parli. This came against a backdrop of a war of words between the NCP faction led by Sharad Pawar and other parties of the state opposition grouping Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which also includes the Congress and the Shiv Sena (UBT), over a "secret" meeting that took place between the two Pawars at businessman Atul Chordiya's residence in Pune on August 12.

Opinion: Soros-Backed OCCRP Getting Ready For A Hit Job On India

Just as 'India on the Moon' celebrations were in full throttle in the country and congratulatory messages pouring from all over the world on a milestone achieved by Indian scientists at ISRO, first nation to land in the south polar region, a news report posted by the Press Trust of India caught the attention of many.

Since PTI is a news agency with decades of credibility behind it, the said news report needed to be taken up with the seriousness it deserved. It suggests that known India and Modi government baiters in foreign shores along with their allied toolkit groups were preparing to make another strike in garb of investigative reportage.

The news report titled 'Hindenburg 2.0? George Soros-backed OCCRP said to be planning another 'expose',' perhaps need no further elaboration.

Now what is OCCRP or the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project? It claims to be a global network of investigative journalists with staff in several countries, specialising in reporting on organised crime and largely publishes these 'news articles' through partnerships with media houses. But is it really what it claims to be? Or is it just a shiny front to achieve something else?

That answer to it leads to another question: who funds them? On its website, it identifies the Open Society Foundations of George Soros, a financier with a penchant for funding radical causes around the world, as one of the institutional donors. Other prominent donors are Ford Foundation, Rockefeller Brothers Fund and Oak Foundation. Most people make a distinction about such western institutions, what they officially profess and what role they actually play and how.

It's important to remind what George Soros, a Hungarian-born American billionaire and a known India baiter since Narendra Modi became prime minister in 2014, said after the Hindenburg report had created ripples: "In India, Modi and business tycoon Adani are close allies. Their fate is intertwined. Adani Enterprises tried to raise funds in the stock market but failed...Modi will have to answer on Adani in Parliament. This will significantly weaken Modi's stranglehold on India's federal govt. I expect a democratic revival in India…I could be foolish, but I think democracy will flourish again."

It may be noted that Soros saw India to be happy and healthy in the UPA 1 and UPA 2 era.

Though in the immediate aftermath of Hindenburg report Adani stocks badly tumbled, a political storm erupted, opposition Congress and its allies forced complete washout of winter session of Parliament, all kinds of allegations were made against the Modi government by its known critics and political rivals, but as the time passed people and investors saw through the possible game in that foreign-originated report, Adani stocks gained upward momentum and the Supreme Court-appointed committee led by former Supreme Court Justice AM Sapre on the Adani-Hindenburg issue came to a conclusion that "prima facie no regulatory failure on part of the SEBI around the allegation of price manipulation".

In short, Soros' wishes couldn't get the flight path trajectory he wanted. There is, thus, this informed speculation the OCCRP was coming out with "Hindenburg 2.0" to try and cause further political and economic upheaval in India.

It has been proved on multiple occasions that they time their report with some important events in India's calendar. Let's see why the current timing is important. But before that a bit of backgrounder.

In May, a six-member expert Supreme Court-appointed committee stated that there was evidence of a build-up in short positions on Adani Group stocks ahead of the release of the Hindenburg report. Suspicious trading was observed on the part of six entities. Of these, four are FPIs, one body corporate and one individual. Some news reports suggest that on further investigation, the number of such entities have gone up. It suggested that SEBI ought to be probing such actions under securities laws.

SEBI is expected to submit its report to the Supreme Court on Aug. 29. It is nobody's case to suggest that the higher judiciary verdict can be influenced by some media or other privately funded reports, but such reports do create a negative buzz and give some additional talking points to the petitioner's lawyers in the court.

In less than a fortnight, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be hosting the G20 summit meeting in New Delhi. Raising political dust or adverse economic/stock market report wouldn't be in the best interests. PM Modi and India in recent years have gained great stature in the global high table. India through its hard work in various sectors is trying overtime to go higher. Modi has already declared that in his third term India will become the third largest economy in the world. That surely does not go well with India and Modi baiters in sections of supposed Western influence groups.

The Opposition INDIA block is meeting in Mumbai on Aug. 31. It has been proven that the Opposition picks up anything and everything, real, half-truth or manufactured, in its bid to target the Modi government. The Soros Open society-funded Hindenburg 2.0, if it comes, would be instantly used as ammunition. More so, at a time when the newly formed alliance is showing signs of conflict and contradiction.

It would be worthwhile to recall what External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had said a few months ago that he was not sure if election season had started in India, but for sure it had started in New York and London. Since then, the run up to the 2024 elections has moved even closer. Soros and his men for sure are working hard.

Box Office Report: Blockbuster Gadar 2 "Wreaks Havoc" In Week 2

Sunny Deol's Gadar 2 ended its second week in cinemas at over Rs 419 crore, reported trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The phrase he used was "wreaks havoc." Gadar 2 has shattered several box office records already and "continues to set new benchmarks." Week 3 numbers are expected to be good as well, especially in the mass circuits. Gadar 2, co-starring Ameesha Patel, released on August 11 and has shown no signs of slowing down since. It has the highest Independence Day earnings of any Hindi film at the domestic box office so far, and also the highest second weekend.

"All time blockbuster. Gadar 2 wreaks havoc in Week 2. Mass pockets on (fire emojis), continue to set new benchmarks. Will continue to dominate the heartland in Week 3 as well. (Week 2) Friday 20.50 crore, Saturday 31.07 crore, Sunday 38.90 crore, Monday 13.50 crore, Tuesday 12.10 crore, Wednesday 10 crore, Thursday 8.40 crore. Total: Rs 419.10 crore. India biz," read Taran Adarsh's post.

Gadar 2 is a sequel to 2001 blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Anil Sharma resumed directing responsibilities for the sequel with Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel reprising their roles as Tara Singh and Sakeena. Additions to the cast include Utkarsh Sharma as Tara and Sakeena's son and Simrat Kaur as his love interest.

Gadar 2 has prevailed despite having to cede screens to Akshay Kumar's OMG 2, which released on the same day, and now to this week's release Dream Girl 2, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday. The next big release is Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan on September 7.

These Rakesh Roshan Memes Are Out Of This World (Pun Intended)

The mood has been largely jubilant on X (formerly called Twitter) as Chandrayaan-3 successfully made a soft landing near the moon's South Pole earlier this week. Amid all the buzz, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan started trending after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee confused astronaut Rakesh Sharma with veteran filmmaker-producer and actor Rakesh Roshan at an event earlier this week. The Internet, as always, took the opportunity to curate memes about Rakesh Roshan, who famously directed the 2003 sci-fi Koi... Mil Gaya, in which an extra-terrestrial creature (Jaadoo) befriends Hrithik Roshan's character Rohit Mehra. Enough about the movie, check out the memes here:

A user wrote, "Stop making fun of it. Koi Mil Gaya was a film based on a true story. Rakesh Roshan was the first one to contact Jadoo."

A dance sequence accompanied this meme. It read, "Hrithik Roshan after he came to know that his father Rakesh Roshan had once gone in space."

"#MoodOfTheNation is the #RakeshRoshan," tweeted another user.

Another X user's contribution to the Rakesh Roshan meme fest.

A user took the opportunity to churn out a meme out of Hrithik Roshan's tweet. "And also congratulations to Rakesh Roshan sir, for landing on moon," the user wrote.

"Rakesh Roshan, Congratulations Sir, for becoming first Indian on the moon," wrote another X user.

Let's just say Jaadoo was name-checked multiple times. A user wrote, "I don't know if he visited space or not, but I'm damn sure that he brought an alien from space to India in the form of JAADU... we celebrated our childhood with Jaadoo."

Directed by Hrithik's father Rakesh Roshan, Koi... Mil Gaya established the base for the Krrish series of films to follow, all starring Hrithik Roshan. Krrish released in 2006, while Krrish 3 released in 2013.

Chess World Cup Prize Money: If Praggnanandhaa Wins Final, He Will Earn...

With Game 1 and Game 2 ending in stalemates, the Chess World Cup final between India's R Praggnanandhaa and world no. 1 Magnus Carlsen will be decided in tie-breakers. In the first game on Tuesday, Praggnanandhaa, playing with white pieces, failed to gain any advantage against Carlsen as both players shook hands after 35 moves. Game 2, on the other hand, saw a similar conclusion as both players agreed on a draw after just 30 moves.

Notably, both Praggnanandhaa and Carlsen are appearing in the Chess World Cup for the first time. Praggnanandhaa is the youngest-ever finalist at the age of 18, while Carlsen, 32, is also chasing his first title at this level.

The winner of the final will bag approximately Rs 90,93,551 ($110k), while the runner-up will receive approximately Rs 66,13,444 ($80). The tournament has a total prize pool of approximately Rs 1,51,392,240.

Carlsen drew the first game of classical chess after 35 moves with the Indian prodigy. In case the second game ended in a tie, the players would have moved to two games of Rapid Chess to decide the winner of this year's Chess World Cup final being played at Baku, Azerbaijan.

Praggnanandhaa started on a strong note with white pieces and enjoyed a time advantage over the Norwegian in the initial phase. Carlsen managed to bounce back against a player who seemed to be well-versed with the lines and moves the Norwegian was going to opt for.

Both Grandmasters continued their play in the second classical game on Wednesday, in which Magnus had white pieces.

(Note: As of 23rd August 2023, the price of $1 is equal to Rs 82.70)

'45 Trillion' Trends As Chandrayaan-3 Lands On Moon. Here's Why

The landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the south pole of the Moon attracted international attention, with many countries congratulating ISRO scientists for achieving something that was thought impossible till now. But on social media, a comment by a journalist started a debate around the aid the UK sends to India. Sophie Corcoran said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the UK should not send aid to India since it has an advanced space programme. She also said it's time "we get our money back".

Also Read | As Nation Celebrates, Chandrayaan-3's Lander-Rover Start Busy Day At Moon

The post soon started gaining traction and users from India were quick to point that the UK should also return the money looted from India. They claimed the amount was $45 trillion.

The buzz soon caused '45 trillion' to trend on X.

The figure first came to limelight after a research done by economist Utsa Patnaik, and published by Columbia University Press, claimed that Britain drained a total of nearly $45 trillion from India during the period 1765 to 1938.

It's a staggering sum. For perspective, the amount is 15 times more than the gross domestic product (GDP) of the UK today.

Ms Patnaik calculated the sum after analysing nearly two centuries of detailed data on tax and trade.

According to a news report published in The Guardian in March this year, the UK's aid to India was meant to have stopped in 2015 after India said it did not want it, but a review by the Independent Commission for Aid Impact said that around 2.3 billion pounds (Rs 23,000 crore) in UK aid went to India between 2016 and 2021.

This included the provision of loans by the government-run British International Investment to mainly smaller companies.

Video: Drone Footage Shows People Trapped Inside Cable Car In Pakistan

Days after authorities in Pakistan rescued eight people trapped for more than 15 hours in a cable car dangling 900 feet above the ground over a deep ravine, a new footage has emerged that shows the harrowing final moments before the rescue. The drone video shows passengers desperately holding onto the grills and pole as the cable car hung dangerously in a titled position above the remote Allai valley in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The video has been obtained exclusively by the BBC and is widely circulating on social media platforms.

Watch the video here:

Military helicopters and zipline experts were deployed to rescue the eight stranded people, including six schoolchildren.

The daring rescue began with a helicopter plucking two children to safety. It was forced back to base in the dark after being airborne for 12 hours.

The rescuers then used the cable keeping the gondola from plunging into the valley as a zipline to rescue the rest of those stranded.

Cable cars that carry passengers, and sometimes even cars, are commonly used across the northern areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and Gilgit-Baltistan and are vital in connecting villages and towns in areas where roads cannot be built.

In 2017, 10 people were killed when a chairlift cable broke, sending passengers plunging into a ravine in a mountain hamlet near the capital, Islamabad.

Take a look at Sunny Deol's video here:

Despite creating havoc at the box office, Gadar 2 released to average reviews. Film critic Saibal Chatterjee, in his review of NDTV, gave the film 2 stars out of 5 and he wrote, "Gadar 2 is strictly for three categories of people: Sunny Deol fans, those that miss the unbridled excesses of Bollywood of yore, and those that believe that "hate thy neighbour" is an axiom worth cheering for in a movie theatre. The film has enough to please them all - and then some."

Directed by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2 is the sequel to the 2001 hit Gadar. In the sequel Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma have reprised their roles of Tara Singh, Sakeena and Jeete, respectively. The film released in theatres on August 11. Chandrayaan-3's Latest Pics Show Moon 70 Km Away Ahead Of Touchdown

The Indian space agency has shared more images of the Moon taken from a 70-km distance by the country's ambitious lunar mission Chandrayaan-3. The images were captured by a camera tasked with guiding the lander during its historic touchdown tomorrow.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) also shared a mission update along with the latest images of the Moon.

"Chandrayaan-3 Mission: The mission is on schedule. Systems are undergoing regular checks. Smooth sailing is continuing. The Mission Operations Complex (MOX) is buzzed with energy & excitement," it said.

The images were captured on Saturday by Lander Position Detection Camera (LPDC) from an altitude of about 70 km. The camera helps the lander module determine its position by matching them against an onboard moon reference map, ISRO said.

The live telecast of the landing operations will begin at 5:20 pm tomorrow, it added.

The ISRO shared images of the far side of the Moon yesterday, showing some of its prominent craters. Those images were taken by a camera tasked to help the Vikram lander find a safe landing area.

The lander is expected to touch down on the Moon's south polar region at 6:04 pm on Wednesday. If successful, India will join US, Russia, and China as only the fourth country to achieve this feat.

"Surviving Each Other's Nonsense.. ": Karthik's Post For Wife Dipika Viral

Veteran Indian cricket team wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik took to social media to share a special message on the occasion of his wedding anniversary. Karthik got married to well-known squash player  Dipika Pallikal in 2015. Karthik shared a picture of both of them and the caption of the post contained a funny yet sweet message for the occasion. "True love is surviving each other's nonsense year after year. Happy DK-DP day," he wrote on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

Earlier, Karthik, who is currently part of the commentary team for the ongoing season of The Hundred, took to X and revealed the movie that was discarded by the critics but holds a special place in heart. Joining the trend, Karthik shared a poster of the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer "Fan".

Karthik is currently not in the scheme of things of the Indian team after a string of low scores. He has not played a game for India since the T20 World Cup semi-final defeat to England last year.

The 38-year-old also had a disastrous IPL 2023 season. He managed 140 runs this season at a paltry average of 11.67. Reports have also emerged that RCB might release him ahead of next season's auction.

Karthik has played 242 matches to date in his IPL career and has scored 4516 runs, with an average of 25.81. He has also slammed 20 half-centuries, with his highest IPL score being an unbeaten 97.

For India, he has played 26 Tests, 94 ODIs and 56 T20Is, amassing more 3,000 runs across formats.
